I do not see the appeal in what are essentially normal speedmasters fitted with what looks like a splinter of carrot or a coloured toothpick.

I am sorry but why would you pay that when you could get a new ST2 Ultraman which is far better for around 90% less?
Or you could get a normal speedy for around half of that!
Apologies if I'm missing the point here, but this is all my opinion and I would never spend that kind of money on such a watch.
