·Hi All,
First post here, so first of all, I just wanted to say a big thanks to everyone for providing such amazing information, which I have been steadily absorbing over the past few weeks. This truly is an amazing resource.
I'm considering purchasing a vintage Omega for myself. I've so far had more accessible Seiko 5/Orient watches that I really enjoy but I am looking for a bit of a step up, and something with history to it is an added perk for me. I found this watch recently on Omega Vintage Watches UK, which I saw mentioned several times here but couldn't find a conclusive opinion on whether it is trusted or not. I'm not in a rush to get my next watch so I can take the time to make sure it is the right one. I know there are some great ones listed on this very forum. If I don't find something that absolutely 100% resonates with me for around $600 at the most, and I am reasonably confident in, I'll probably just wait and get a new Speedmaster at the end of the year.
Anyway, here is the one I am considering right now. This would be coming to me for $500 USD.
Relevant part of the description:
There's hardly a mark on the dial and certainly nothing to suggest that its 50 years old. Applied silver hour batons part topped in black. Silver hands with matching sweep seconds hand. Applied Omega logo and signed Omega, Geneve and Swiss Made in black. The acrylic is in good condition. This is a manual wind watch with the original signed crown.
The case has been polished and has only very minor dents and scratches. The screw-fit case back has a few marks where it has been opened. Inside the case-back, it is fully marked Omega.
The watch is powered by an excellent example of the Omega calibre 601.
So I am going in knowing that it is polished, and that isn't necessarily a dealbreaker to me - this one looks relatively sharp still, to my inexperienced eyes. I reviewed the "Learn to Fish" article earlier but I cannot tell if it has been redialled. It looks pretty clean, maybe too clean, but it isn't perfect so I don't know. Not sure about the different color around the edge of the crystal, either.
The price looks in line with other 135.041 examples I have seen. So with that, what do you think? Good deal at $500? Very thankful for any input.
Thanks again!
