New SMP, wow.

Been absent for a bit.
Current watch status is roughly as such.
Omega side I own a Speedmaster which for some reason is not getting the wrist time it deserves. Also a old Seamaster quarts which is on its way to my son............ when he deserves it; it will happen before then.

Also own an Tag F1 and new Autavia, Rolex Explorer and OP white dial. (+ few others that must go)

Recently reluctantly added myself to a "wish list" for a Rolex sub. With my AD relationship I should get one within 6 months. Owned the previous sub, but sold it due to the maxi case.

But recently there was something building up inside me against this bizarre situation regarding Rolex availability. I somehow feel manipulated.

So last night I looked at Omega's site again; and various resources on the net about the SMP. The grey and white both looked "cool". Eventually I thought the grey looked the best. (still not 100%)

So, I said "cool"........... Today I went and look at it in the flesh! Never has a watch made such a first impression on me, never. Sorry, my words will not do it justice. Just wow.

So I will try my new rule of allowing myself a cool off period before a new purchase. Which most likely tomorrow I will report back did not work, again.

This one. (98% grey)

Tried one on at my local AD a month or two back - I'm the first to say I'm not crazy about the literal bulk of the current SMP line, which to me is less comfortable if more aesthetically pleasing than Rollie's maxi Sub, but the grey is by all means a stunning watch.

Let us know how long your will-power holds out! 😉

I have the blue and it was a tough decision between it and the silver. In the end I felt the silver was a bit too chrome and shiny for me, and I needed a blue watch anyway.

At the end of last year, we reached a financial goal that we had agreed would grant me permission to buy a Submariner. Three years before, I was at my AD trying them on and could have walked out with one on the spot. The AD gave me a Submariner hardcover book, and I had my goal set. This time last year, I was prepared to pay what it took to get that Submariner, but when it came time to pay the 3k-4k premium over retail for a secondhand watch, I just couldn't pull the trigger. Like the OP, the gray dial Seamaster Diver 300M found me, and it seemed like the common sense decision - a better watch for half the cost. I purchased it on Christmas Eve last year, and I have only grown more fond of it over the course of this year. I don't feel like I compromised in any way, but instead think I made an obvious and smart choice.

Owned the grey one for about a year and in my opinions it's the greatest looking one out of the line.

I have had the blue one for nearly 2 years, still wear it daily! Other watches get a couple of hours wrist time.

I like the grey - but with the blue rubber. I don’t like white dials at all and they never last with me, but I’m strangely drawn to the white one....

You can’t go wrong with either choice! Both are exceptional watches. I love the new Sub, but find the SMP 300 to be a considerably better value prop. I also love that replacement/service parts are available to order from any OMEGA-certified watchmaker, which lets owners wear it like the tool watch it’s intended to be. Oh, and you don't have to wait months or years to get the watch what you want! 👍

Agreed - I wish the new SMP 300 was 40 or 41mm, and a tad thinner.

And though I prefer the waves on the dial, I’d love to see a glossy dial SMP 300 with the date at the 6!

I have the black dial version and for me it is stunning, more comfortable to wear, and easier to tell the time than my Sub - and additionally feels like a watch compared to the Rolex which feels strangely like jewelry rather than a watch.

I think the white dial is the most attractive dive watch on the market right now

I could not have said it better myself.
I don't think Omega gets enough credit for this watch.

The white talks to me and says “buy me”, I keep fighting the urge to but I know that someday I’m likely to succumb.

The white dial, especially on the black rubber strap is really nice!

The white works pretty much with everything: on factory bracelet, on bond-style milanese mesh, black strap, white strap, red strap, black strap with white stitching, red stitching. Man, this is a beauty...

Hehe, where do I sound Swedish? Just curious 😉 But no, I am just fellow Baltic from the south part of the sea 😉

Going back to topic, to prove what I wrote two posts before, here some of my "whitey" pics with not so common straps (everyone knows how it looks on factory bracelet and black rubber).

Great combos! Butik means “store” or “shop” in Swedish, so I jumped to conclusions. Seems I wasn’t too far off. Half Lithuanian myself...
