New shipping coffin/container?

Silly topic but us collectors are weird.

Looks like Omega recently updated their shipping "coffin" from the clear plastic to a paper box closer to what Patek uses, but it has a nice full color stock image of the watch on the front. Don't know if this is only on the Ultra Deep because the case is too damn big for the clear plastic ones Omega's been using, but it would be interesting to see if it expands to the entire collection. Seems way more collectible than before!

Wonder how new this is. My green Seamaster purchased in November came in a clear plastic case. AD had got it in a week before I bought it.

Was trying out an Omega Speedmaster 3861 in the OB and the watch was brought out to me in this paper box just like the one above but with the color image of the Speedmaster instead.

I'm guessing the switch is for 2 reasons.
1. Cheaper to use paper/cardboard.
2. Reduce plastic use to be more environmentally friendly.

3. To allow the watch to be crushed and damaged during shipping

Reminds me of EVs being the future of zero emissions when it does significantly more damage to the environment 😀

Got my SMP300m two weeks ago and it came in said paper coffin. The box is fairly robust. Not quite iPhone box robust but does the job I think.

Niceeeee. The new box seems a lot neater. I have a bunch of the old ones and they're taking up space while just looking like generic packaging.

I like the plastic ones. Generic is good if you might sell some without their boxes. That being said, the new ones look nice.

It must be a recent change because there are only a couple months between @Mac_to_ten and I picking up the same watch.

yip, it’s a recent thing. The sales lady at the OB said that they were phasing out the plastics one for sustainability reasons.

It's a good move to help reduce plastic use. Tudor has been using these paper boxes for transportation for quite a while now.

Paper vs plastic, it's all image. Paper production is not particularly green, plus the inks. But paper makes people feel good. Perhaps Omega will use red cardboard cards instead of plastic, too. And the fancy wood boxes finished with a urethane finish, just use a cardboard box of some sort. Or just give the watch in the cardboard coffin and tell the buyer it's all about sustainability. It all is pretty silly.

These don’t ship like your package. Light night and day how luxury products are shipped from the brands. (They are never tight asses on shipping or duty 😗)

Boxes are placed in lockable metal box and are shipped from a government bond store in one country to another government bond store in another country.
Picked up from the bond store and delivered by a specialist courier that is well aware the goods he is carrying are worth more than his 1/4 yearly pay.
