Railmaster LE is my least favorite. I predict we will be seeing it available for a long time.

I’ve got both watches and believe me, although there are some similarities regarding the dials, they are totally different watches. The only reason why I consider to sell my SM300 Co-Axial is that I'm looking for a SM300 LE.

Just out of interest, of you had to choose between the sm 300 and the railmaster, which one would win it for you?

I still don’t get it why all discussions are always about availability, value and preciousness of LEs. Either you enjoy a watch or you don’t.

I always thought this is a place where watch enthusiasts come together and talk about their passion of watches and not the ‘Wolf of Wall Street forums’.

To be honest, personally I’m getting more and more tired about these endless value discussions and comments.

When they asked me if I want to try the RMLE at my local OB I was laughing at them because with my 8” wrist I’ve been pretty convinced that this watch wouldn’t fit to me but the moment I had it on my wrist and looked into the mirror I was sold to it.

I also feel that why this hobby suddenly turned into ugly money centred business?? We are here to enjoy and discuss nuisances of horological marvel of mankind called wrist watches not to discuss the ups and downs of the value and make profit in them.... let’s go back to the real joy of the hobby and stop being a trader in business.

Yes I had a similar concern as a SM300MC (modern version) owner. But seeing both watches together live at my local OB made it clear to me that they are very different watches. The RM on leather is a classical time piece par excellence. The SM300 is a modern diver. Seeing both watches live together is the only way to really see if you think there will be a collection clash.

I was trying to find the right way to answer this and have re-writen it several times without finding the right tone or angle.

I bought the Railmaster because I like it’s simple purity. The SM300 twiddly ring is a distraction, the Speedmaster comes with all the market value speculator, one-upmanship snobbery nonsense.

Since buying it I have not given one millisecond of thought to potential residual value nor have I had any doubt that maybe one of the others could have been the better choice. I have just enjoyed every moment of wearing it.

Just buy whatever the hell YOU like.

What does this say about the RMLE? What does this say about you?

I think we should collude to drive down Railmaster prices so we can all buy one for half price 😜
In this day and age someone is going to find that you posted this and sue you for collusion and dricing down market prices 😉

I think I saw the horse twitch...

Perhaps the above 2017 version of this well known classic might bump the Railmaster sales? Of course the story is set in the 30s, so still a few decades away from the first 57 Railmaster release. When I look at the RM LE, it does evoke the romance of steam engines. These were still operating in the UK in the 1950s:

Omega would probably bump sales more if they simply redialed the remaining RMLEs as Flightmasters as per the Fuerza Aérea del Perú (FAP) and offered them as the official service watch of Fuerza Aérea de Cataluña (FAC).

Which brings us back in a rather circuitous manner to your steam engines. If Scotland were to become independent their Air Force would presumably comprise Flying Scotsmen.

Same here. It was for me a choice between the RMLE's beautiful domed crystal and the SM300LE's rotating bezel which I also happen to find distracting. It was a no-brainer. Both are incredible watches but I just had to go with the purity of the RMLE.

As for the Speedmaster 1957LE, it was not even a consideration since I'm tired of Speedmasters at this point (plus the fact that I consider the Pro as the quintessential Speedy). However, I won't go so far as to say that the re-issue of the CK-2915 was merely a speculator's choice as it is a beautiful watch in its own right. It's a nice addition to any WIS's Speedmaster hoard.

At the end of the day, I can live without the SM300LE and the SM57LE. In my personal Trilogy, I've replaced the SM300LE with the now classic Skyfall AT 38.5 and the CK-2915 with my Daytona which has increased in market value already, and with the RMLE as the centerpiece of my collection--certainly the apple of my eye.

Is there much difference between the crystals of the RM and SM300? I thought they were the same.

The crystals are different. The RMLE has edges (the best way I can describe it) while the SM300 is like a cut from a sphere. Take it from our good friend Longbow:

Side question, but related to earlier posts on the thread - what is the deal with getting a LE watch like one of these on jomashop? I’m new to watches, and wondering if/how you get into trouble by getting one that’s grey market. I understand you won’t have manufacturer’s warranty as though you bought from omega boutique. But will they still service it if necessary? If jomashop is the only place you can find the LE Seamaster for instance, are there reasons you shouldn’t get it from there?
