Having visited the Museum some years ago, I am looking forward to visit the new one. 😀

Petros Protopapas has mentioned, that it should open next year: "...We are planning to open a new Omega museum by 2017, where all the correct model numbers, movement numbers, reference numbers, etc. which flew in space will be displayed..."

Full Story here: http://www.watchprosite.com/?page=wf.forumpost&fi=677&ti=1054643&pi=7607273&pzt=1456703651

There are also many details about the history of the Speedmaster to be found through that link.

Thanks so much for sharing a great article. I've never had the pleasure of visiting the old museum but from that video it looks amazing. Love the moon landing section with full astronaut suit. Very cool!

Omega remains quiet about the opening / relocation of the Omega museum... probably postponed towards the end of the year, even 2018 ?
😕

It won't happen this year as far as I know.

But when it will, it will be a blast. I'll rather wait for them to make it awesome 😀

I was told last week that it's looking like the first quarter of 2018.

After the opening of the new Omega production facility on November 2nd 2017, we're certainly looking forward to the opening of the new Omega museum in Bienne - Switzerland 🍿
Top tip:
Not only the Apollo A7L mannequin suit needs an update in order to get corrected (Armstrong nor Aldrin had red stripes on the A7L spacesuit )... but it would be great if the museum team could acquire a Russian Orlan-M spacesuit as most ISS spacewalks with an Omega Speedmaster were done with the Russian space suit...

I have also been there recently.

These 2 photos don´t show the building for the new museum but they are buildings for SWATCH I have been told.

The annual general meeting of the SAMO (Société des Amis du Musée Omega) will take place on april 24th.
If anything about the opening/planning is revealed I'll let you know.
but they are buildings for SWATCH
I am under the impression that one level will be used for the new museum. I'll ask on the 24th.

A couple of years ago, this preliminary design drawing was revealed:
https://www.dezeen.com/2013/06/19/headquarters-for-swatch-and-omega-by-shigeru-ban/

.

Looks like the museum will be a part of this project. From the old article:
"The curving body of the Swatch headquarters will branch out from the museum, extending the plaza out across the street."
"The museum building will form the centre of the campus and will be raised off the ground to open up a new entrance plaza."

... a whole building for the museum?

Let's hope so as that design shows a 1/20th scale Saturn V launch vehicle and Omega should find ample space to proudly display their LRV - Lunar Rover vehicle and the Apollo-era control desk from the Mission Operations Control Room of the MCC - Mission Control Center at Johnson Space Center - Houston TX USA... 👍
