Firstly would like to say hello to other members as i am new to this forum. I have search for a couple of days now as i did not want to just ask without looking first, but still no answers. Have had my 1969 Geneva CAL 601 for a while now and have decided that i would like to try and find a replacement dial/face and also change the crown as the current one has no signature on it. Questions: Where is a reliable place to source these parts? Would you say my watch is in poor , fair or good condition? Thank you for your time.
What do you see wrong with the dial that you want to change it? A fitting crown can likely be ordered from Omega by a watchmaker in their service network.
+1 Case looks good; I also can't see from this pictures what is wrong with the dial. If there are issues a better picture is needed You could add here a close up of the movement if you like. From this picture it is impossible to see if it is in good condition, at least I can't...
Sorry about the photos, i have uploaded a couple which are now more clear. You can see some patina from around 5 past through to 20 to on the dial. I wondered if this can be cleaned up of if this is normal, if this is bad or if i should replace. thank you for your time.
The hour batons are in really good condition and for most the condition is fine, i was on about the patina from around about 5 past to 20 to, you can see a light brownish colour. In some lights you can not see it but as per the photos its there. I was wondering if the face could be cleaned and if so how or could i get a replacement face from somewhere and if so where or is this normal for a watch of this age? Thank you for your time.
Dials are very hard to repair I think, it seems that the laquer layer on the dial in this area is damaged. I don't know if the dial is still available from Omega but I would doubt that. You could search the bay for a used one. I would leave it as it is, tom me its not very disturbing You could have your watchmaker change the crown when the next service has to be carried out. If you want another crown right now, do as @connieseamaster said You got a nice looking watch, enjoy!
That dial isn't too bad, I would say that watch is in pretty good condition in general. You could get a replacement dial from Omega but it wont be an exact match, the logo and text would be later. Also be aware that replacing the dial or any work really will rapidly exceed the value of the watch. Even a mint 135.041 fetches maybe £250-300 on a good day, so spending £500+ (service and dial) to improve an already tidy one is not the most sensible thing IMO. I would leave it as is, a crown wont cost the earth but a replaced or repainted dial will be expensive.
I checked - they are not. The Extranet states this: "Return dial to restored" That is based on this being a case number 135.041 as Padders noted.
Archer - what do you mean you have check and they are not? what is "return dial to restored"? sorry for my lack of knowledge, hence im here.
Just out of interest, does anyone know the actual dial size of this watch incase i need to replace it? 135.041 omega geneve cal 601
I have checked - dials are not available from Omega, and they state that the dial must be returned to them for restoration.
