So the watch was never in his possession and this is a lesson to anyone that tries to scoop up these types of watches from blow-ins with no history or established identity.

Good reminder of the reason for the 200-post rule.

So this scammer (The original poster) is now banned, he tried to hook some people PMing him offers on the watch and rip them off, someone identified that the photos were in fact stolen from this listing here, even though he swore that he took them himself recently:

Bring on the Dancing Bears then

I kinda liked him right to the scam no messing around. I stopped into the watch shop down the street from work he gets some nice stuff but it’s usually something someone had ordered and he will find it for them so I haven’t picked anything up yet but as I was looking around someone came in and was apparently trying to sell a fake Rolex watch it got a little heated and they attempted to drag me in But even if knew Rolex which I don’t I would have no desire to referee a debate that was getting heated already. I beat feet sayin I had to get back but I’m curious how frequently he has to with issues like that.ebb though it’s a rough neighborhood I think he is well established and built a name where that isn’t a frequent occurrence. Still stinks though it’s his family business I imagine that can get very annoying.

Well done, moderators!
This wasn’t us, it was a case of two members comparing notes and looking out for each-other then letting us know when they smelled a rat. It was great work on their part to do so and they’ll probably post the longer version of it later on in this thread.

You have to be so careful. I never trust anyone who starts every message Hey Hey… maybe the bear had hay fever.
There are so many scam attempts, good that people are alert. The one below is a new thing they try. They set up a fake YouTube close to the persons name and then tempt you onto unregulated coms channel, to no doubt get your bank details etc etc…

He did seem surprisingly ignorant of his home state.
Most Americans don’t know that Puerto Ricans are American Citizens…just sayin’

I've been on this board A LOT more in recent months - initiated with a resurgence in my Omega enthusiasm - but also because the chit-chat seems a little less frenetic and a bit.....nicer ( except when I posted about Speedy water resistance being insufficient......oof..).

One thing I don't have a sense of : Is this particularly forum any more or less a target for scam sellers than any other. WUS is always a big group, but it is so big, hard to break through. But, like TRF, this site is concentrated. I wondered if that made it better or worse?

I think it’s just as much of a target as any others, but the 200 post rule and the closer knit element of this community keeps sharp eyes on new- comers. Of course we have had some very dedicated scammers dig in and make the commitment to invest in the community before enacting their plan (Trojan horse)- but those are isolated cases and get quickly exposed.

As for WR on the Speedy- they are not authorized for snorkeling.

... Don't get me started! I love me my Speedy, but I thought the WR should be at least an explorer. The comments were....to borrow from Sandra Day O'Connor in such situations...."unattractive".

That's a good point about the 200 post rule and there seems to be a strong "core" here, which is also quite nice.

Not the right thread obviously and clearly a dead horse on this forum- but on the topic of speedy WR, it’s not meant for that. My professional Nikon and Leica cameras are weather sealed and rated for extreme conditions and splash resistance- and I have put them through that (torrential
downpours)- but I wouldn’t take them in the pool.
To paraphrase something I read long ago in regards to outrage over the 1m water resistance of the Glycine Airman- if a pilot’s watch ends up in the water, the pilot has bigger issues to deal with than thinking about their watch.

So did Rolex, but don’t tell them that,
