I have always wanted an Omega watch and decided after living for 50 years it was now the time to treat myself. Being unable to afford anything new or modern I took the step to decide on a vintage watch as old as me. Maybe crazy but here it is, my Constellation. It actually looks better than the photos I feel. Not overly polished, crisp case lines, some patina on the dial but not too bad, logo on crystal and crown all looks original. 564 movement and case model all add up to being genuine. Anyway I like it and it has started my collection and being this old kinda feels special to me.
It is a really nice C-Shape Connie that you have! This case model is still underrated, but it is a beauty. I’m looking for one with fluted bezel since a while! The sun brush on the bezel is still there, which is not so common!
The watch really looks nice. The only thing that bothers me is the lume. It looks like it was added later, and maybe refitted with lumed hands. But there are many here with way more knowledge then I have that will hopefully chime in. But everything else about it looks very nice.
Thanks for the feedback. I know exactly what you mean as the lume has made some patina marks. Looking head on you can hardly see them but they are there for sure. There is absolutely no luminescence left anyway! I knew the marks were there but accepted them for what there are and it is a 50 year old watch which I do not think I overpaid for.
You got yourself a great Connie, the Calibre 564 is one of the finest of the 60s made by Omega. If you want to read more about Omega Constellations I highly recommend this blog http://omega-constellation-collectors.blogspot.com/?m=0 Wear it in good health.
Welcome to the C- shaped and Omega family! You have already started your time here on a perfect footing- you have an avatar, you didn’t ask what it was worth, you introduced yourself, you posted lots of pictures, you used the correct terminology and have obviously done your homework (you know about the logo on the crystal)....I think I’m gonna cry. And my C- shaped Connie also says hi!
Welcome! And I’ll be honest, this thread is killing me more than a little bit! Had a great linen dialed C shaped lined up a little while back, and passed on it. Of course, I have regretted it ever since! Enjoy that watch.
And btw @stevelovell - you’re gonna get asked about your last name on this forum of course (NASA geeks)- so I might as well ask now, any relationship to Jim?
I was just thinking the same thing about another C that I missed out on here somewhat recently! Definitely won’t make that mistake again. And congrats to the OP. Very nice watch.
Thanks for all the replies and positive comments. I have taken a look at the blog mentioned and you can sure lose some time going through that information. I am no relation to the famous astronaut and live over in the UK. I have got a vintage box with the watch but do not believe it is the correct one but is around the correct age. I bought the watch from a friend/colleague who is a complete watch fanatic. This was one from his significant collection which he slowly rotates. It fitted my birth year based on the movement serial number and seemed a reasonable price based on my research. This is a great forum and thanks so far everybody! No regrets at all with my first vintage Omega purchase but some of those pictures above are simply stunning and maybe I need to up my game and budget for my next purchase!! I am planning on this being an everyday wearer....
If you can track down the factory bricks bracelet, it’s a game changer on these- totally turns up the sexy factor and makes them a much sportier watch. Commonly come up here in the parts classified’s. In terms of fleshing out your collection, having a birthyear is 69/70 is actually a good thing as Speedmasters in that range are still fairly reasonable compared to the earlier versions. I have had my birthyear (‘72- right behind you) for 18 years and love it....was my first Omega and I have way to many now....they get addictive.
