Frankly, I like it as is. The leather band works for me. Don't be in any kind of hurry.
Thanks, Stini. The leather has really grown on me too. I think you’re right - no rush, just enjoy it for now.

😂 Surprisingly, not a single message! I genuinely came looking for advice rather than offers - and I’ve certainly received plenty of good advice!
I like to believe it’s out of respect for the 200 post count rule. 😎

Based on and info provided, Speedmaster 101 would have this watch as Fair from my reading. Caveat is that SN and inside case pics are not available. I’ve not cracked my Moonwatch book. As I’ve said, I totally love it. It’s an honest watch that’s lived a long life. It oozes character and personality.

Welcome, and that's a hell of a watch to introduce yourself with. I am wearing the current version today.

Thanks for the advice! I do have my eye on an older Zenith “Panda” Daytona, so that’s partly behind my thinking. That said, the more you guys tell me to keep the 2998, the harder the decision is becoming! 😄

Well, keep in mind, you're on OMEGA FORUMS. Hahaha

Zeniths are cool too!

If the watch is pretty special (being inherited) then take your time before deciding to sell.

Once it’s gone it’s gone forever - with the sentimental value attached to it, if there is any.

If budget allows, getting the Zenith first might help you decide whether you like it enough to sell the Omega. Or not. It’s easy to fall in love with a watch, only to realise that sometimes we like it more on a screen than in real life!

Welcome!

Ooops, yes duly noted Hal. I did think it may of been an error to mention something from the dark side 😁. I won't utter the R word again 🫡.

Thanks for the warm welcome and thoughtful advice - much appreciated!
The 2998 was inherited from my late father, along with a few other beautiful watches, so there’s certainly some sentimental value attached.
Unfortunately, I’m not currently in a position to purchase the Zenith outright, hence the difficult decision. You make a very good point though - admiring a watch from afar and actually owning one can be two very different things!
Certainly plenty of food for thought, and I’m in no immediate rush to make a decision.
Thanks again!
Matt

Thanks for that Larry. I really appreciate your thoughts!
I like the way you've described it 😊. The watch certainly has plenty of character!
I don't know much about its history unfortunately, as Dad had it tucked away in storage for years. Wish I knew a little more about its past!
Cheers,
Matt
