Thanks for having me on board. I've always loved Omega watches but due to other commitments I currently only have the single piece. It was my Grandfathers watch which was a retirement gift from Shell Oil when he left them in the late 70's. I was fortunate to have been left it in his will along with his WW2 medals when he died in 1986. I didn't wear it for many years and it sat in it's presentation box until about 8 years ago when I decided to have it serviced and removed the gold "beads of rice" bracelet & replaced it with a black lizard skin one complete with gold Omega buckle.
Wow. Simply, wow. Hands down one of the best intro's I've seen. WELCOME to the forum. Tons of good information & even better people here. Enjoy!
Welcome, it’s nice to have some provenance with a watch. Also, good to see you’ve already started switching out straps
Thanks for the welcome guys! Funny about the strap as I picked up something else recently and swapped it over this morning. It's a little less formal so I can wear the watch more often. I'll grab a photo later this evening. My grandfather served in the Royal Engineers and as well as being evacuated from Dunkirk in 1940 he was in the first wave of British troops than landed on the Normandy beaches to help clear mines and tank traps etc. A lovely man who I was fortunate to have known for 16 years. These are a few of the watch when I received it complete with original bracelet and box...
I did have a 2254.50 which I purchased new (one of the last ones I think) in early 2009. However, due to starting my own business I needed to cover the set up costs so reluctantly sold it for about £900. The last one I saw was going for well over £2k! I'd like another at some point in the future.
