Hello everyone, I'm not the expert. I'm looking at the photos from cell phone and I see that the dial is repainted. First of all the dial has a different color than original Ranchero. To the right of the Omega symbol there is a scratch. It looks exactly like in the repainted dials, not like on originals. Ranchero 30mm was printed from a bad made cliche.
In addition, the dial has a very thick lacquer layer, which is not usual for this type of dial. Look how the lacquer cracked at the bottom of the dial.
My opinion is that the dial was redone many years ago. It'a a good repaint exept "Ranchero 30 mm "

i am sorry but i think your ranchero is redone . I have checked with antiquorum catalogs no " swiss made " on the dial eighter.
The dial in this book seems to be repainted. Or am I wrong?

I know two big suppliers , armando Paraguay and walter in Argentina. The guy in paraguay bought up the whole stock of omega cases bezels dials , movement parts in the 70s when omega left the country or something , in argentina you want walter, for all your movement spare parts.

About the Swiss made because it seems that question has not been answered...
When you don't see the Swiss made on auction pics it is mainly due to the rehaut masking it.
Exemple on this seamaster, but the Swiss made is there, juts below the rehaut ( confirm during servicing)

I have never seen 6503 stamped in the caseback on any of the 2990-1 I have seen.

Normally they look like this:

It's also scary. I don't even want to go anywhere near a Ranchero...

Are you talking about the sauce or the watch?

As with all vintage watches it's a case of Buyer Beware.

And as I find myself saying again and again and again, research, research, more research, THEN get your money out of your wallet.

For $150 the OP has bought what's likely a Seamaster that has been tarted up to look like a Ranchero... which means he's up on the guys who buy from the two sellers on the London flea market scene who sell these things for £1500... and seem to have a never ending supply. 😉

Is this ranchero genuine ?
Rancheros are not my thing. To be perfectly honest, though I like the dials, I would never consider buying one so I've never looked at the minutiae. You're better off following the advice of those on here who do work with and collect them.

Really not scary. It took about 5 minutes for 4 people to jump in and say fugazi.
Everything that's collectible can be and is faked. Constellations, Seamaster 300's,
Rolex Subs, you name it. Just takes a little homework or help from friends that's all.

I bet that it'll take a good while before someone try to fake their way into @Wryfox' collection of sand from across the globe 😁

I recently found these photos on an old laptop, so let me share my Ranchero hunting tale from a decade ago...

I decided I loved the look of the SM300s and Railmasters but couldn't afford those at those lofty 2006 market prices 🤦, so I started to learn what I could about Rancheros. It took me a good year of "research" - there was a collector who had a webpage on Rancheros that I can no longer find. I studied his page, Timezone, the Omega forum on Chronocentric (anyone remember that thing existing?) and several other references. I didn't have as many trusted contacts in those days as I do now, so it was basically me trusting what I saw there and comparing to the examples that came up for sale. Finally I pulled the trigger on an eBay auction, and won this for $700:

Ugh. I determined it to be a redial within about 3 seconds of holding it, but I don't know how I determined it was worthy of a bid in the first place???🤦

I spent a good year looking for an original dial, with no luck. So back on eBay it went, where I clearly described it as a redial.

Now between the time I overpaid for this lemon and put it back for sale, the Omegamania auction happened, and prices for Rancheros and many other vintage Omegas spiked. The winning bidder of this gem paid me like $1,300. 🤦 Not proud that I profited off of this watch, but just pointing out that it was only very fortunate timing that saved me from losing money on a bad example. I was frightened off of vintage watches for several years since I felt burned even after I had spent months of what I thought was due diligence.

So do your research, but even that will get you only so far. Ask here first. I think if OF existed then I wouldn't have made this mistake.👍
