What an amazing story! True heirloom watch if there was any, and a Speedy Pro at that!

Got my watch back today! She's fully operational now!

How exciting! It looks fantastic. I wish you many, many years of happy wearing.

Hope to see you here next Speedy Tuesday 😀

Little update - I also now have a black shell strap, for a slightly fancier look. Decided to keep the 1039 bracelet, but I need a few of the missing links to fit my wrist, so if any one has any to spare, think of me!

Today's pics. Question - that gold-ish/brass ring around the outermost watch face - I think it was black before it was serviced? Any one know what's up with that?

I think if you look at your original picture you will see that the ring was not black, perhaps dirty but not black, I think the watchmaker probably cleaned it up. Hope you are enjoying your watch, I am not even a little bit of a fan of speedies, but there is no better feeling of putting on a watch you love in the morning.

That's right, the black colour was already starting to chip off on the original photos but now it's completely gone.
I fear your watch's rehaut was a bit "overcleaned".
It should be black on a 145.022-69.

Looks a bit sloppy. Order a new crystal, omega original, and it will come with a black tension ring. Swap crystal at the next visit at the watchmaker

Annnnnd today when I got out of the gym I noticed that there was condensation on the inside crystal!!!

I think I got a crap service/ripped off, sigh.

Any one recommend someone I can TRUST do do this watch justice? Preferably in the Baltimore Area?

Did you get it wet or was it just humid at the gym?

I didn't get it wet - it was just humid.

Someone said earlier that Govbergs was not the best?

They're good, but just have to keep in mind these watches were never that water resistant to begin with and yours is now 45 years old. Most people keep a brand new Speedmaster dry, so not sealing well isn't a huge shock especially if the original crown and pushers have been retained (which most people prefer for originality).

They are original, so yes I can see that - even with new gaskets/seals I received in July when it was serviced? So I should not be concerned that it fogged up on the inside after a workout? I googled "condensation inside an Omega Speedmaster" and what I read was basically "GET IT SERVICED NOW OH GOD OH GOD"... which ... uh... concerned me.

(This will be the last time I wear my watch at the gym, too!)

Do people ever send their watches in for service? (Ie ship them to a Speedmaster expert?)

I have heard positive things about USA Watch Service in Dover, NH.. but I have no personal experience with them. I am sure there are other quite reputable US based outfits out there...

Will removing the caseback, mag coverand leting it air out be of help? Perhaps opeping it up and then heating up the watch to 125 degress in an oven? Used to do this with electronic devices and it worked rather well.
