with omega restarting their ad campaigns for these watches, I hear they are now 'being delivered to omega boutiques' in the UK from their chat person on their website. anyone seen one yet? any confirmed purchases any where in the world yet?

I went to the omega store in london Canary Wharf today. All the windows had adverts for the new AT Colours and their ‘shades’ campaign.

Staff inside said another 2 months.

If I follow your logic, then how was upgrading to a more complex dial from gen 1 to gen 2, then AGAIN in gen 3 cost cutting?

It just doesn't make sense logically or fiscally. Upgrading to a teak style dial, and then tweaking the teak dial to be horizontal doesn't seem very wise if they were trying to cut cost on dial manufacturing.

It's change for the sake of change (a common criticism of Omega).
I didn't focus on what happened to the previous generations, and certainly you bring up a fair point.

Though it could be argued that, as part of mor luxurious overhauls, some degree of cost cutting can take place.

Was at one of the London boutiques today. They are available for sale provided they have a spare one in stock. They have to have them all displayed. I could have bought the saffron or green as they had a spare of each. They are coming in already.

I generally like then. The dial is a really nice sunburst effect and the all polished case is different to the regular AT line as well. Personally the saffron dial isn't for me. I think it works best on the green, sand or terracotta. I'll probably end up with the sand or terracotta dial at some point. I'd have to go back and have another look.

interesting it was the saffron I was keen to see

although I won’t be paying retail price for it! So need to bide my time until they come on the grey or secondary market.

So I think someone got the red one!

nice. I like the saffron best personally. I do worry about it’s fashion endurance however

I’ve been having a long think about getting one of these AT shades. I really liked them. And this would be my first ‘luxury’ watch.

But then I saw the Rolex Explorer is the same price at £6,100. And seems to be a more solid buy. I think it’s fair to say both are overpriced.

Obviously very different in a lot of ways, but also both meet all the requirements I have. I don’t ever intend to sell but it’s nice to know the Rolex will (probably) retain its value better.

So I have decided to go Rolex - hopefully will pick it up this week.

Are you already on "the list" and did the Rolex AD say the watch is arriving? Otherwise, good luck with trying to get a new Explorer at retail price.

Well..... I have been contemplating which watch to get since about Jan.

My journey started with wanting an AT shade either the orange or red, but they were not available; I was still interested in the classic ATs but I at least wanted to compare them before I purchased. So I held off, and in the mean time, research and YouTube videos led me to the rolex explorer. But I didn't even bother asking/visiting an AD about one due to all the negative online content about Rolex.

Then after I saw the news about watches and wonders I went to an AD, actually to have a look at new Tudor BB54 last month. After a bit of chat they said they could get me Explorer 'sooner than you think', and got a text message on Friday saying they had one for me, and will pick it up when I get a chance this week.

So I only waited 5 weeks. From what they told me I think availability is improving at least for the 'less desirable' Rolexes.

But anyway, like I said this would be my "first ‘luxury’ watch" and I intend to keep it a lifetime. And I think for people like me waiting to get what you want is worth it in the end.

Wow, only 5 weeks waiting time and with no purchase history. Maybe things really are starting to improve. Or the salesperson just liked the look of you 😁
Either way, congrats and remember to post pictures or it never happened 😉

So… I was too excited and managed to rearrange my work day and am just on my way home with my new explorer.

I don’t want to sound like I am trolling omega forums with my Rolex decision. But I just thought it would be useful to others who, like me, are/were also looking at the AT shades range because they are nose to nose on price. I started off wanting the AT but this is where I ended up.

Can’t go wrong with an Explorer for sure. Absolute classic stunner and a pretty bulletproof watch. Wear in good health.

I think much of the consternation here will not be touting a Rolex over an Omega, but the concept they can be cross-shopped at MSRP on a short timeline. I certainly hope Rolex steel sports availability is freeing up, but I can say first hand from this weekend that I can walk into the local WoS and buy just about any Omega I want, and that when I asked about steel sports Rolex (since the display cases were barren) I was pretty much laughed at. And this is an AD I have some strong purchase history with over the years.

I am definitely glad it worked out for you (100%; that’s a GREAT new watch), and it will be for the benefit of buyers of all brands when Rolex availability at MSRP returns, but I think for the majority of us, that day is still a ways off.

The Rolex Explorer is a good comp to the AT in terms of MSRP, but to me, feels like apples to oranges in terms of the watch itself. IMO, the more suitable comp to the Aqua Terra in Rolex’s lineup is the Datejust. While an Explorer tends not to have much of a wait list (even these days), and I think the value prop is superior to the AT, getting a Datejust to your exact specifications can take upwards of a year - depending on what you’re seeking.

I see others mulling over if the new AT dial design will endure long term, and the AT has always seemed like a trendy watch. Teak dials, plank dials, plain dials, brushed bracelets, polished center links, etc. It is hard for me to nail down what the DNA of an Aqua Terra is, but I appreciate it marks the moment in time. If you want a fun dial on a no nonsense hours/mins/secs/date, it’s a great value prop next to a Datejust. I am just puzzled why they’ve taken so long to hit stores!

I liken the AT more to the Oyster Perpetual than the Datejust personally. I get the OP has no date but feel it's more in the same ballpark. Still not had any contact from my local AD (Goldsmiths) on my OP (blue, 42) - I've given up after 2 years. Love the fact you've been able to get your Explorer so quickly @kkqd1337 but it's frustrating that the buying process is so haphazard and inconsistent between stores / locations / buyers.

Hi
One can only imagine that there is trouble ahead for Rolex… as I have said before, Rolex’s problem will be when supply outstrips demand. Nice watch and enjoy, although Omega rules!
