New Bond SMP unveiled (Not the new movie model)

A Swatchco employee once told me how this would play out, with three watches introduced with each new Bond film release:

1. Well before the film's premiere, a somewhat generalised Bond-themed watch. (what we saw this week)

2. Close to the film's premiere, a watch clearly tied to the theme/plot/title of the film. (wait 'till Q1 2020)

3. After the film has been out for a while, an additional, generalised Bond-themed watch. (think The Commander Watch)

But we are allowed to complain about it. Why else have a subforum on OF for Modern Omega watches 😁 On Instagram two out of 10 comments are negative and I strongly considered adding a third to get it to 30 percent negative but as I am waiting on a Submariner from them I don’t want to upset them and risk waiting 8 years instead of only 7 and a half 🙄

So the further you move away from specialist fora and onto a broader spectrum of the potential buying public, approval rate gets higher. I think that is probably the case with pretty much all products from brands that deviate from the core of the brand's value, like the various bloated BMWs that are about as sporty as a Transit van compared to the offerings of the 90's for instance.

My take is that if the watch had been "generic" with only a few, low-key touches like the Spectre Seamaster 300, the amount of extra sales generated from the enthusiasts would probably cannibalise some sales from the base model, but wouldn't differentiate itself from the base model to garner interest outside of those already in the market. The sales generated from an obviously Bond-themed Seamaster would, on the other hand, be more likely to draw in customers who wouldn't buy an ordinary Seamaster.

Probably right. I am sure that if you ask AD’s they sell well. There is a reason for Omega milking the Moon connection and Bond. It works.

There are two idiots on eBay trying to flip a pre-order for $9k - $10k that is supposedly "sold out!" (all 7007 of them? yeah, no.). They obviously don't know how Omega pre-orders work... expect it appearing in the flesh randomly 6-8 months from now

I ordered one direct from omega website and iv been told it will be with me early next week.
When i ordered it the website kept saying unavailable then for approximately 3 minutes they were available.
I wonder how many they sold direct and how many they will save for the boutiques.
I may be wrong but I don’t think you can get one direct from omega now not in the uk at least.

Talking to my Omega AD yesterday and they advised that the watch won't be available until November, it will be interesting to see whether your watch arrives next week.

They gave me the option to cancel my order as it was meant to be delivered today but emailed me with an apology saying it will be here early next week.
They have taken payment so I’ll give them a bit of leeway.

Not a fan of the "riffled" pattern on the dial or the 12 o'clock marker. However I do like the hidden 50 in the 10 o'clock hour marker.

Cool watch for Bond enthusiasts but personally I would rather have the "regular" black wave dial.

I just got a voicemail from the manager at my local OB, asking if I'm interested in coming in to get the new watch. (Not particularly - I'm saving for a Moonwatch.) But he says they only have a few (of course!), and a glance at the official website indicates that it's not available directly from Omega (at least at the moment). It may be a good seller - it looks better, IMHO, than the Commander Watch from a couple of years ago.

That said, I was also going to point out, as others have above, how ironic it is that Omega is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the film that marked the high-water mark of Rolex in a Bond film ... not just one model, but two.

I agree about the bond connection I’m buying it because I was after a seamaster and I like the aesthetics and of course the movement but I must admit I do like the current bond he will have big shoes to fill

Not keen on the Bond paraphenilia on the watch, but think the gold hands and indices work nicely, always a sucker for a vintage insprired watch. The link to OHMSS is tedious, but think this model does give some good ideas to what the 'screen' bond watch will be, especially seeing the grainy filming pics a few months back.

If the screen watch follows the Spectre edition that came out, (no Bond gimmicks) I think that will be the one to get.

The best Bond watch is an regular watch that Bond happened to wear in the movie, like a Planet Ocean or SMP.

As for commemoratives, the Spectre might be the best - none of that fancy labeling and rifling that wasn’t on Bond’s watch when he wore it in the film.

I think it’s very clever of omega how they are keeping the Armstrong surname in vogue over the seamaster and speedmaster range.

Well, a lot has been said about this watch, but after having handled it in the metal yesterday, it’s actually quite good! Note that I am neither a great 300M, nor a huge 007 fan, I still found it pretty attractive. Especially the dark dial is really nice. To each his (or her) own, of course.

As this thread is desperately in need of some pictures; here we go.

And a comparison shot with its ‘regular’ brother;

(Bad quality, I know. iPhone shooting inside a Boutique...)

I like the way the first picture shows it as a lot more subtle than the professional macro shots done on the omega website and others.
In my experience watches in real life are always less in your face in reality.
I’ve been swaying to and fro about my decision to buy this watch but now I’m glad I’ve ordered one.
