Thanks for the tip of the winding, will keep it in mind.

I have bought it at an AD, but I have to say they were not really well informed about the watches they are selling.. Just to give an example: She asked me if she needed to explain the different functions (like you said: how to set it, wind it, ...). Off course I said yes, but even those things she didn't get quite right. For example with the 8500 movement you can move the hour hand in 1 hour increments to be able to switch time zones easily, and also to set the date. She didn't know that and I ended up explaining her how it works..

I think maybe she was new, or she is mostly the lady who sells the jewellery and not the watches, but still when they sell it they should indeed know what they are talking about.

Yes, another reason I blame the AD - the salespeople should know the basics on the brands they carry but often don't.

RTFM! 馃槈

Just kidding....sort of. The manual should give you everything you need to know about winding and setting the watch, and also all details of the warranty and service intervals.

Unfortunately most AD's have no idea what they sell, so it's really up to you to figure this stuff out, at least that has been my experience. And with regards to them telling you about service, yes I agree, but that is truly a fantasy world. The last thing they want to do is jeopardize a sale with information about how often a watch needs servicing, and how much that servicing costs.

In many cases they rely on your ignorance of these things to make sales....I know because I have people email me all the time who have just discovered (after the fact) that their new precious is going to need servicing down the road. I had one yesterday where the person asked me about servicing a watch he was going to buy, and when he found out the costs, he said he was just going to get a quartz watch....and I don't charge nearly as much as the brands do!

Cheers, Al

Al, we depend on people like that to sell their watches on eBay instead of paying for a service. 馃槣

I have found the perfect solution -

I have accrued a collection of over 20 Watches - keep rotating them so that none gets more than a few days on the wrist at a time...
they never get a chance to lose any seconds....so in my mind, All of my watches are dead on balls accurate...they've never been proven otherwise...
