From what I understand this model flew on Apollo 17 but may not have been actually on the moon? Not quit sure. I know it was later used in the shuttle missions.

Any thoughts on this speedy?

Are the pushers that were replaced the correct ones?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I think you payed too much for what seems to be an average condition 145.022. My opinion.

With all due respect, it is good practice to seek advice before spending that kind of money on a watch like the one you purchased. Many members here are very knowledgeable and would have certainly helped you make a better choice.

Cheers,

nothing wrong with it, but yes you probably paid a "premium"...

do you like the look? great, don't think about that, just wear it and enjoy it.

A good guide to use is Speedmaster101's price chart (https://speedmaster101.com/price-chart-2/). The challenging part is deciding the condition, and opinions may vary. The price chart is just for the watch head.

For example
Bezel ( condition is fair as it does have some significant damage ) 3,100
Dial ( condition is good +, I like the even patina, very clean dial ) 4,800
Case ( condition is good, hard to tell from photos, but, doesn't look polished and no significant damage ) 3,600
(I’ve broken the head down to three components as they vary in condition, the price is still for the entire watch head and not just the individual component, as a DNN insert is definitely not worth 3.100)
Take the average of the three ... approx 3,850 K
Add 750 to 1k for service 4,600- 4850

It's a nice watch and you didn't overpay a substantial amount, all things considered.

Looks good, and I guess overpaying a bit is something that all of us have done at the beginning.
Pretend you got a very expensive parking ticket, forget about it and enjoy the watch

Thanks much for all the help. Any ideas if the pushers are correct?

If my memory serves me well Apollo 17 heat experiment watch was a -69 not a -71

You've spent a bit more than you should, but got the real deal.

Sure beats buying a redial or fake or franken - as many (many) (did I say many?) before you have done.

The parking ticket analogy is spot on!

Nice watch but as others have said, that was a little pricey, ive seen that reference for typically around the 3 to 4k range.

Congratulations on your new watch, wear in the best of health.

Thanks I’ve seen them recently in the range of $4000-$7000 the ones one the lower range were quite beat up or polished and had mostly white indices and I was most picky about the color of patina I wanted on the dail. I also wanted the step dial. I searched the forums for sales and even the individual shops websites in Japan, using Google translate when I could. Also searched countless other websites like chrono and frankly anyone that had a good reputation. It seems to me that maybe the pandemic has raised prices? I am happy with what I paid. If it is everything the pictures and listing make it out to be I will be very satisfied.

Sorry but even a quick search found this, taking offers on $4800

https://www.ebay.com/itm/143761600070

this has a bracelet and less damaged case, but not by much.

has a bracelet but a 1175. Op watch has no bracelet included.

I think OP dial is going to be better IRL

look it’s not a disaster. You have a watch and I think it will turn out ok.

you have to start somewhere and go with your intuition. Not many here did better on their first watch.

my very first Speedmaster only achieved the value of the price I paid for it about 10 years after I got it.

Thanks Spacefruit. I know you know your stuff

I did seriously consider this one but passed on it because for $400 more I got better patina and a better bezel in my opinion and I would rather over pay and get what I want than wish I had paid a little bit more and regret the purchase.

I should add that the bracelet was not priority to me since I am going with these xeric leather straps on it. I had picked the straps before purchasing the watch as I wear them on my other speedy. I may someday get a Forstner as I like the flat link but that eBay listing just didn’t do it for me.
Here is the band I will pair with the watch.

Okay here it is. It arrived today!

I have put it next to my reduced for size comparison. Really like the larger size.

Thanks I was really happy that the dial was so nice and all original. I saw you purchased a speedy from japan which I have done before as well with good results. Good looking watch you got.

I am now going to put the Reduced speedy up for sale probably on eBay.
