Need some info on Seiko or aftermarket crystals

2 years ago on a whim, I grabbed a 7548-7000 because the serial was my exact birthday (month/year) I ended up really liking this piece but the bezel was loose and wouldn't "click" for 1/3rd of the rotation around. Haven't been able to find a replacement until last week when a NOS bezel came up (maybe I got scammed but I'm just happy to have found a new one... and it looks good) Part numbers is from a 6309 but what I read it fits a 7548, which it does, but this one is about 1mm thicker. This leaves a 1mm step (no gap at least) from the face of the crystal to the bezel insert.

Is it possible to order a crystal with a custom thickness? I'd just need the same exact factory crystal but with 1mm added to the thickness and this thing would be perfect.

Do you have a digital caliper?

I have a dial caliper. I don't really want to pop this one out unless I know for a fact I can order a custom one, so I've been going off measurements that I've found online. I measured both bezels and there's just under a 1mm difference on thickness. All other dimensions are exact and the fit is perfect.

Contact yobokies. I’m going to bet he has one, or something that will work.

I've been looking thru a lot of the seiko mod stores but most list their stuff as "compatible to" a certain model and don't really list any dimensions. You're probably right though, might have to start emailing them directly. I'm sure they know the measurements.

You're correct, that's not an original 6309/7548 bezel insert. You could potentially swap the old insert into the new bezel, it's not difficult to do once you have your technique sorted n

What would I gain?

The 7548 bezel insert is slopped slightly inwards and are not flat like the 7S26 inserts, so the inner edge sits more at the same height as the crystal. Also the 6105 crystals are the same diameter as the 7548 crystals and will fit (as the picture you have posted), but they are not flat and are double domed - just so that you are aware before ordering one

I guess that was my confusion. both my old bezel and this new one have sloped inserts. If I were wearing it today I'd include a picture. Part of the reason I stayed away from aftermarket bezels was because nobody makes a sloped insert, but I read that this model number bezel does. I can't measure the angle, but with a flat edge up to both, they both seem to have the same angle (by eye)

Oh and I seen the dome. I could go either way but I would definitely prefer a flat crystal just to avoid any distortion that a domed crystal may cause. Since this is used on some watches with basically the same dial I'll just take the gamble and try it out. It's cheap enough I guess.

The 7548 crystal I have here is 320mm and approximately 2.7mm thick. You will find also that the 6105 diver crystals are available in different thicknesses. Seiko originally had it quite thick and gradually reduced the thickness due to the amount of scratches the thicker crystals got. You can see some of the different options available here https://kleinvintagewatch.com/crystals

Also i just remembered that the 7548 crystals are frosted around the outer edge and the 6105's are not.

Here's the original (hard to hold and photograph) and the new bezels angles. By eye they look to be the same angle.
