Hi all,

I'm new to watch collecting and could use some advice about the following. I can purchase a vintage omega watch of a colleague of mine, but I do not really know what to look for to judge whether I'm buying a original watch or a redial / Frankenstein. And also whether $700 would be a fair price.

I did some research myself by comparing this watch to similar offers on Chrono 24.
- Omega sign in the center of the glass is there
- Reference number is consistent with similar offers

But other than that, I don't what to look for.

The watch really looks beautiful, but perhaps to good for a watch that age?

I don't have any pictures from the internals. Colleague states that it is difficult for this wacht but says that the watch was serviced earlier this year (I do trust him on that).

What do you guys think?

Regards,

Henk (Belgium)

[update] replaced first photo as it had some strange reflections

I think the watch looks nice but the dial damage between 8-9 would discourage me from paying anything close to the quoted price.

I would also want to factor in the cost of a service (you don’t suggest it has been) and the fact that it’s a manual wind watch rather than an automatic

I think the damage may be on the crystal (I can see the tick marks faintly through the damage), but that's important to determine. He did say it was serviced.

Terribly sorry, the first picture, don't know what happened, but there is no damage between 8 and 9

I like that funky monoblock case. Hard to tell, but it looks like there are some signs of ‘respectful’ wear to the finish?

If the seller says it was serviced earlier this year I would expect a receipt for the work done to be available.

And the photo is now changed 😀

$700 would be quite high for one of these particularly if un-serviced.

Check eBay SOLD listings for up to date market value.

Theyre not bad watches by any means, they're just not that desirable compared to other models and have a very high survival rate so there tend to be more of them on the market than there are buyers.

Take your time follow the Recomnended listings on eBay thread see what decent watches look like
This one is nice enough but certainly no bargain and you may find something like better.

Good evening!
If possible, try and get more close up pictures?

Thanks all for the replies!

Based on your answers I decided to wait a little more before making a purchase. Will watch the market places to see what these watches do to get a better feeling of pricing and condition.

The provided threads are really useful.

Thanks again!
