Hello, first time poster. Been looking for number of months to buy a vintage Seamaster and trying to educate myself on here.

Been offered this watch. Any thoughts or comments on condition/originality be much appreciated. Case must have been polished but overall I think the definition looks okay. Don’t think the dial is repainted. Not sure about the the crown. As I say any advice would be much appreciated. Asking price is less than £1k

Ugly refinished dial - ugly over polished case - ugly fake crown - ugly wrong hands. Only the movement looks ok to me.

Dial is repainted. no where near a 1k watch.

I sold a nice original one for £475 a few months ago. They can be found for that price with patience.

Look on the sales section here on this forum. Better to buy from a member and play it safe.

Look at some of the details when comparing a watch you’re interested in with other examples of the same ref you find via google. In this case, the positioning of the Swiss Made alone (above the minute ticks) is an easy give-away. It’s a design that was introduced much later.

These are what you should be looking for.

And note that they have the semi-hidden crown and original dials.

Nice watches. Similar to the 166.002 it with a recessed crown and fancier lugs.
