So, how long do you reckon it will be before the buyer shows up asking about authenticity
Nope, depends on the case maker. The style of casebacks on the 14.XXX can also be found on later models.
...Really? From those photos you could tell if the fonts were good? And MOY is always relevant?
This one is a classic fake that鈥檚 been around for awhile.

Hope the buyer sticks it to the seller.

But I think the biggest red flag was that they took off the case back and didn't take a picture of the movement, which is why the seller is most likely in on it... knows that its fake(and probably should be reported).
can you help this noob re the Ebay watch which sold for $2850?
1. are there 2 different watches in the pics? Pic #2 looks like a silver-coloured watch, whereas all the others are "gold-coloured". Just poor photos?
Poor photos and/or it鈥檚 inner base metal shining through
2. the inner case back pic (#4) shows a hallmark for gold, but doesn't have an Omega ref number on it. Surely wrong?
Yes
3. the outer case-back pic (#3) looks terrible to me. Either seriously polished or just badly made?
Badly made and badly designed (no brickwork)
4. no movement pic? Why remove the back cover and then not take a pic of the movement?
Who knows what is inside?
5. is the crown a fake or just seriously badly worn?
Both
.....this is why I don't buy Omegas from Ebay....!
