The quality of these pictures show how good the fakes are getting - they fool lots of experts until they get hands on and also a closer look with a 10x loupe.

To everyone else - Not all fakes are as obvious as the one the OP posted, but he was concerned enough to write his original post instead of buying, so people should give him credit where credit is due.

Appreciate it. It takes time and experience to develop a trained eye for anything of value that is replicated. So while it might look "blatantly" fake to some, it might not be so obvious to others.

The scary thing (as noted) is that some of these fakes are so good - and if properly marketed with a good fake box and a reasonable price (i.e. not "too good to be true") then you could be taken. Heck, you could take them to a Rolex AD and they probably wouldn't be able to tell either.

The only way to know for sure any more is to send it to Rolex for a service estimate. They'll charge you nothing for the estimate, but will be quick to let you know if it's not real. Of course, they may not give it back... (I'm not sure on the law about that, Internet lore aside).

TRF (The Rolex Forum) is an excellent resource and education forum. www. rolexforums.com

BTW @bimmernerd, I too am a BMW fan. Well... it's kind of a love/hate thing, honestly.

Hard to go wrong with an M5. Any generation. OK, maybe not the E60. LOL

My latest purchase, 2 months ago, 540i, has been in the shop all week and I won't see it until next week, if then. Discouraged.

Mine actually was delivered to Chicago originally- one of only 224 delivered to the US in ‘93. Luckily it was a garage kept and these things suck on ice or snow so the original owner probably had a Land Rover as his second.
I live in MD so our winters are not nearly as bad, but it goes on the battery tender at the sign of first snow and doesn’t come out until we have had at least 2-3 hard rains after the season to get all the salt gone.

Ah, glad to see another BMW love/hate relationship on this page! That makes two of us. I've had more than my fair share of them in my garage over the years. Still, end up coming back to them!

Some pictures I could gather on my iphone. I can upload more from my PC when I get home.

Love the E34!

Easily my top 3 BMW's from that generation. Along with the E30 and E36 S50B32 M3's.

Had an E60 M5 for 3 weeks. It was easily the best/worst 1.5 weeks for my eardrums before the Vanos solenoids needed to be replaced (knew going in, it was a fixer). Unbelievable cars on the freeway, terrible in everyday driving conditions with the SMG transmission.

Here’s a couple good videos on how to spot Rolex fakes- it’s all in the details.

Man, those are scary videos. Although the differences under magnification are fairly obvious. Those differences though are a lot easier to mask on photos posted to internet forums.

Hmmm
In all honesty Larry, a car like a classic BMW is not a really fit for a daily driver anymore (I drove mine daily until 2008, then It because a garage queen). If you keep it in a garage with a battery tender in the winter months, have a good independent mechanic, and have classic car insurance (I have had Hagerty for my cars since 2003), they cost little to own. If you plan to drive it daily, track it or take it on rally’s, then you better have deep pockets and a strong stomach. But as a fair weather back country road carver- they are a blast.

If people can fake way they look (Airbrush etc) watches are certainly not a problem lol
