Walking through a local nature spot and saw a small group of people gathered on that path looking at a tree. This guy/gal was on a nearby branch. Close enough to the path that I assume he/she likes to scope out the smaller dogs being walked by the large meat bags.

A new experience for me...

... yesterday I was stung by a bumblebee. Of course I've been stung by bees occasionally and by wasps heavily as a child before I learned not to step on wasps' nests, but bumblebee never. In fact I can and do pick them up gently to transport them out of the house when they can't find the way out. Never had an objection before, but yesterday I picked up some very wet dead leaves and received a sharp sting. Inside the leaves were two bumblebees, who were probably already pissed off by being trapped in there and extra annoyed by being squeezed some more.

Ouch! They certainly pack a punch 😲

In future I'll still pick up bumblebees but be extra wary of wet leaves 🙄

They really like to pose. Sometimes you can walk right up to them for a blog shot.

I remember when I was little back in the 1960s we had to get up real early in the morning , then go with the 4 wheel drive off road club to see one which looked to be hundereds of yards away on the other side of a swamp through feild glasses.

Removing DDT from the environment and restoring the local marsh brought them back.

Came home from running some errands yesterday and the sun was setting, and this guy was hovering around the garage. He did look like he wanted to come in for a visit, so we had to shut the garage door and encourage him to move on...

Reminds me of this fun guy

-from a news article about a rabid racoon. Such an impressive stance I saved the picture.

Reminds of a certain series of movies...

Rabies - we get some in the area, but of the 91 cases found in 2024, 90 were in bats, and one was a human case (first in 50 years). We occasionally have raccoons acting strange in our neighbourhood, but that's usually distemper.

When my son was stationed in Okinawa there was a racoon that lived around the barracks and the Marines would share late night pizza with it.

The bighorn sheep are often at this spot. I think they like the road salt.
