Canon Beach is one of my favorite beaches ever!!!!

Haven't been there since last year, but I definitely like it as well! We like to Camp just a bit further south down the coast at Cape Perpetua.

I use a iPhone 16 and just found out that it automatically uses AI to tag my photos 🫣. I was going to look up this butterfly, when I saw that the work was done for me. Apparently it’s a polygonia.

Just click the little AI thingy circled in red at the bottom

That does appear to be polygonia sp. If it's like the ones that I grew up around, it probably has a silver "question mark" on the ventral/underside of the wing ( that you would see when the wing is closed). I used to see these eating rotting fruit all the time!

RE: the AI identification, it's typically good enough to get the general species or genus mostly accurate but rarely specific species or ssp.

I took my dog for a walk about half an hour ago and these guys were trying to graze behind the house. I grabbed my camera but with the light quickly fading I found getting a good shot difficult.

A bit more grim side of nature, but good for the seagull chicks that got fed on these doves. It could have been a hawk, but seagulls nest on the roof above.

How about some live magpies that we have been feeding nuts and biscuits in the garden.

This guy was back today and decided to go to town on the wild strawberries I planted. It was hard to count, but I watched him eat over 20 of them. I can't believe they all fit in his little belly.

Well, as a bonus, he'll help you and your neighbors have addition wild strawberry plants next year as he "moves" through the day and probably tomorrow.😎

I can watch bees do their thing for hours. They are so darn focused on the task at hand.
