My local authorized Omega dealer can't find my watch serial number in registers

Hi!

This is my first post here and I hope to solve a little mystery that has been bugging me for some weeks. About 4 weeks ago I inherited an Omega Speedmaster 3551.50 from my dad. A watch he bought from a friend 5 or 6 years ago, no box, no papers.

Because the bracelet was to small for me I went to my local omega AD and asked if they could order some links for the bracelet. They then called me back the same day and asked for the serial number on the lug to order the right bracelet for my specific Speedmaster model. When they checked the serial number (located on the lug) they didn't get any match in registers.

When checking the serial number on online reference sites I get the production year (2006) and so on, but it still bugs me that the watch can't be found in registers. My watch with the bracelet is still at the dealer because they are awaiting the links. Also, they have opened the watch and confirmed that it is not fake. But I was hoping that someone here could give me some info/tips/advice on how to solve this mystery? 馃榾 Is it common that serial numbers are missing from Omega registers?

Best regards, Mats from Norway.

After reading the thread title, I thought you were going to say that they lost your watch. This doesn't seem like a big deal to me. A glitch in the system.

I checked it and got the same result - it's not common that this happens, so I would contact Omega directly, or had the AD do it to see if they can get more information.

I would definitely contact Omega and get it sorted. Sounds fishy...
