My late Grandfathers Seamaster

Hi everyone, i have my Seamaster automatic & thats almost all i know about it, its hard to find any info online, all i could find that its a cal.1020 & ref # 166.0209 but no idea on what year its built, im trying to get some parts for it but I'm lost on that too!! I found parts on ebay but its all numbers & sizes & i dont know what fits or not, I need a crystal & a crown thats what i can see at the moment, please i would really appreciate any help on how & where i can get the exact parts needed. Oh is there any chance its a fake !?

Hi Ali,
The 38****** serial number stamped inside the little disc is unique to your watch and reveals that it was made in 1974.
It looks absolutely genuine and, although not particularly valuable on a buy/sell basis will have great sentimental value to you.
It’s too nice a watch for you to mess with and and possibly/probably damage. You really should take it to a competent local watch repairer to have it serviced and a new crystal (glass) fitted.
If you don’t know a watch repairer, and it is worth having it done properly (it would probably cost around £150 plus parts) post where you’re based and someone may be able to recommend a reliable repairer.

It’s worth having serviced and a new crystal fitted so you can wear it if it’s your grandfather’s, as Spruce suggested not an overly valuable watch but condition isn’t bad and crystals are cheap.

That's the plan originally, just is where i live parts are not available for this model unfortunately, i trying to get the parts now if any one could help me i would appreciate it.

Someone posted this on another site, a few years ago,

'Try Al Hawaj in Salmaniya. I've tried them out many times, very good service.'

And an Eterna site posted,

'State of Bahrain, Bahrain Jewellery Centre, P.O. Box 69, Manama'

If they can repair Eterna watches, they should be fine for an Omega.

I’ve no idea if they’re any good but good luck.

You personally do not source parts, your watchmaker does.

I, given the choice, would send this watch to Omega in Bienne CH, and get factory service.

You might choose another path. Many believe that retaining as many parts as possible, even damaged, are more memorable. In general, crystals, crowns, internal movement parts, and gaskets are expendable. If you do send it to Omega, they might make part substitutions that you might not agree with.

So you do have alternatives, and worthy of thought and discussion.

why do you need to change the crown? It looks like an original Omega crown.
You should probably not wear the watch until you have it serviced, but do you know if it keeps time? If it does, there’s no reason to believe parts will need replacing during service.
The only times my watches needed part replacements was on very damaged watches which could not keep time even after being fully serviced.

I took it to a watchmaker two days ago, the exact doom style glass is not available, he segested to install a flat aftermarket glass if i want But i said no, i want it to be authentic genuine & period correct, l told him to take the glass out & measure it, the diameter is 31.6mm, its much easier to get one now i know the correct part i need, i got both parts online , a genuine signed plexi glass & a style correct genuine crown.

The crown is in really bad condition, its like a case type crown not a full solid piece & it has one side completely torn away. If you zoom in the pic you will see it.

It does not keep time & i cant cant pull the crown out, it will be taken care of, the only hard thing was to get the parts, because its not available locally.

The parts you require are restricted by Omega and will only be available to watchmakers with an accredited Omega Parts Account.

There may be some still in the open market so these are the part numbers from Cousins UK site.

As suggested previously, return to Omega Switzerland or an Omega Boutique in your area may be the best option.

Yes i agree with you, but i was recommended to this shop by many watch dealers. Its in pieces now hope it turns out good.

Thank you for the part #s , i was about to buy a glass but i found another with the part # you posted.
