So today this came up at auction and I decided to give it a go. I have looked at www.omegalcdspeedmaster.com and believe the watch in question is fairly solid.

It looks to be in original condition with an uncracked bezel (albeit with a scratch/ding at 5 o'clock). The crystal shows some wear but I believe it can be polished to look quite all right. The case has hairlines but to me looks fairly unpolished and could clean up nicely. It comes with what looks like the original bracelet. According to the listing, it runs and I'll just have to wait and see how the pushers work. A plus is that it comes with the original box.

I paid around 1.600 euros for it, including all fees. The auction house does offer a 14-day return policy, so if I'm way off in my evaluation please let me know. Auction pics below (sorry for duplicates, I have tried to delete them without succes):

If it's a Speedmaster, why does it have a Seamaster logo on the caseback?

A genuine well used watch and at a good price too as it also has the bracelet

If it's a Speedmaster, why does it have a Seamaster logo on the caseback?

They all do, although I'm not sure I really believe the below quote.

"According to the current state of knowledge, the case backs were proudly labelled Seamaster and featured the Seahorse to remind that the Speedmasters were considered as part of the large Seamaster product family that time."

You made a good deal on that!
The back case is correct to the watch. All 186.0004 Speedmasters had the Seamaster case backs as a reminiscence of the great Seamaster family.
Once you have it check the time keeping. Sometimes the quartz stabs are slightly broken so that the watch will not keep time properly. Light should also be tested and check if all LCD digits are displayed properly.
However all these things can be fixed.
Given the good price you paid these could be easily done extra if necessary.

Enjoy your nice watch!

I purchased a new watch from an Omega Boutique in the U.S. recently and they offered to provide a complimentary service on any Omega that I owned as a part of the purchase. My digital Speedy had a bit of debris between the crystal and the display that bothered me so I asked if they could fix it. It was sent to a U.S. repair facility where they decided it should be sent to Bienne for repair. I just got it back and it looks great. They cleaned it up, replaced the crystal, pushers, battery clamp and seal. I'd asked for no polishing as it was in pretty good shape. All was complimentary and it came back in the new style service box. Very pleased as it is such a cool watch. Congrats on yours!
