My first Omega: The Mitsukoshi Speedmaster Mod

Hey guys, just curious about something and hope you guys can answer this.

I'm concerned about the servicing for this piece. If I send it to Omega, will they replace the dial and hands back to the 3570 ones? Also, if I send it to a third-party watchmakef to service my watch, I'm afraid that the silver hands will break as I read online that they are susceptible to breaking when removing the hands. I'm afraid of them breaking as it's pretty hard to source the silver hands now.

Thanks!

Omega will (most likely) tell you that the only way they will service the watch is if they convert it back, and they will charge you for the parts to do that. With regards to the hands failing on removal, it can happen with pretty much any chronograph, as the hands can be extremely tight on the posts. Always a good idea to have spare hands available for such an occurrence.

Cheers, Al

I think an independent skilled watchmaker will service it for you with no problem whatsoever

It really is a beautiful mod.
If you are concerned about future omega servicing buy a dial and hands and put them on the watch before shipping it off.
Hands and dial replacement is a pretty straightforward job and would not worry too much about it

Does it matter? Most importantly, it's all original parts. And there are only like 300 pieces out there. It will take too much effort to get anal about a so called "pure" piece

Only if anyone ever tries to pass it off as original... otherwise, not a jot. 👍

Looking at doing this mod as we speak. I'm getting all silver hands with the dial, and will tell my watchmaker to reuse the white hands. (Save silver for Gemini or if a white one breaks) very excited.

Very nice Speedy. Getting tempted to mod my Speedy to a Mitsukoshi every time I see a photo.

Hi everyone! This is my first post on the forum. Have been lurking for quite a bit haha. Bought my first Omega today: The Mitsukoshi Speedy.

Released as a 300-piece ltd edition for Japan's Mitsukoshi department stall. However, there were some spare dials released by Omega. Managed to get a converted one with an original Mitsukoshi dial on a 3570.50 base with original papers, bracelet and original dial and hands. Mine looks exactly the same as the original Mitsukoshi, just that the address on the warranty card isn't stated Mitsukoshi.

This piece is flat-out gorgeous in real-life. I just love Panda dials. I went "wow" the instant I saw it. The dial appears more silver and opaline-like than white. The dial has a sort of shimmer/gleam that cannot be captured in photos. Watch is in excellent condition. The case does not have any scratches/dents etc. Adore it to bits. Gotta mount it on the bracelet!

Also managed to reserve a Speedy Tuesday ltd edition. Gonna have 2 pandas in the future!

Awesome mod! Can't wait to see the duo, I think we will be duo panda brothers

All - I may have the opportunity to purchase one of these. If I take it to an Omega boutique can they tell me if it an original or modified one? I really don't care either way but want to make sure I'm paying for what I get. How can I tell the difference. Is it just serial number?
Also - can any give me ballpark pricing for an original and a modified one - great shape but no papers.

I would never buy one without paper if they say it’s a original. The paper and the wooden box is what makes it worth the price. Without papers, I think you should assume it’s a mod panda speedmaster.

I have seen a mod range from 3.3-6 k depending on how well it is made and with the original speedmaster set.
