My First Omega - the 321 Stainless Steel

Hi all

For quite sometime I have been wanting to expand my watch horizons and specifically get into Omega. For the last few years I have been (overly) focused on Tudor and Rolex (and a few others such as the Vertex M100). There have been a few Omega watches that I have seriously considered but for some reason not gone for. For the last few years I have resisted the Moonwatch, I suppose partly because it was the obvious choice and because so many people have it. It also didn't grip me the way others did (like the worldtimer). Recently I tried on the latest version of the hesalite and sapphire versions at an AD and something strange happened - I suddenly felt a strong connection to it on wrist and it all seemed to click. More recently I was shown the 321 and was able to compare it to the Moonwatch Professional. This was a game changer, the straight lugs, the smaller size, the unguarded crown (much easier to wind) and the bracelet and of course the movement just elevated the piece to me to must have territory so I am going to go back and purchase the 321.

I am very conscious that this piece is really for Omega fans and for collectors who quite honestly know a lot more about the history and details of the piece to a much greater extent than I do so in that sense I feel a bit of a fraud. However, I do love the watch (those longer lume markers and the fact the minute track is now correlated to the frequency of the movement) so I am excited to get it. With all of that in mind, and putting the cost to one side, do you think the 321 is a good way to get into Omega? I suppose it is going into the deep end but then I have to start my journey somewhere!

Since you're talking about the new 321, I don't see anything wrong with it, especially as you are well acquainted with mechanical watches in general. Buy it and be happy! 😀

Excellent and wise choice. I bought the 3861 Professional sapphire last month. As much as I love the watch, If I had to do it over I would of went for the 321 Ed White. I like the idea of each 321 being made by one watch maker and the history and refinement of the watch make it a instant collector's piece. Enjoy it and wear it in good health. Make sure to post pics so I can get jealous.

The reference 311.30.40.30.01.001 is IMO a home run by Omega. Love mine and it is by far my favorite modern Speedmaster.

Surprised if you have found one in stock at a dealer - these have been thin on the ground and many who ordered them are still waiting. Great for you if so & enjoy!

I think your timing must be just right. I agree with your assessment and encourage your decision. If you're in a position to easily pick one up, do not hesitate. It is a wonderful modern Moonwatch with the many strong connections to 105.003 reference that it is inspired by.

Buy what you like.
If you settle for something else, you’ll always regret not waiting longer or paying more for the watch you REALLY wanted.

If you really want to go into the deep end of the Omega/Speedmaster universe, you might as well go all in with one of these. 😁

Are you planning on buying it straight away?
I think they’re generally quite hard to get hold of unless you’re going to pay over retail price or have a very good relationship with an Omega boutique.

It seems OP was already offered one by OB / AD. Of course if you like it go for it, I just cannot understand why people who already payed in full for one when it was announced, are still waiting for it (with OB purchase history).

by the way it’s not about me 😀

Sounds like a Rolex list situation going on for the Ed White. Next we'll start seeing the empty cases. Lol

Are the sub dials flat? I’d have to pass if they are

Flat, but recessed by like 0.5mm with a raised border.

US$81,000 and subdials are the deal-breaker? 😁

Flat how?

A shame, I much prefer the depth the dished subs give. The border makes them look overly fussy to my eye.

I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t trade this for my beaten up 69, so I needn’t worry 😁

Congrats! It's the one to have 👍

Agree 110%! I don't understand why so many are enamored by these onyx dials ...😵‍💫 they have an artificial feel to them (imo).

Now THIS... is where it's at... 😉
