My father's 1959 Speedmaster

I wanted to post a follow up on my previous post regarding my father's vintage Speedmaster:
https://omegaforums.net/threads/my-fathers-1959-speedmaster.114676/

I ordered and received the extract and given that a few members expressed interest I thought I would post the results. It appears that he did buy it in Denmark after returning from working in Canada for a couple of years. As a kid I remember him saying he came back from working up north with $25k, which would have been an insane amount of money in the 50's. It would make sense that this is when he would have decided to invest in buying what would have been a great tool watch, but not necessarily a luxury item.

I'd love to see a photo of the watch. Been considering an extract for my '59 Seamaster.

Thank you for this!

Wonderful story and tribute to your father. I love it when I see people restore and preserve, rather then "remodel" or outright re-build, whether it be a watch, a 1920 Spanish Colonial Revival Home, an antique chair, a fountain, car, anything.
It's a beauty. When I first glanced at the picture of you in your car wearing your Dad's watch, my first thought was,"I wonder if he knows that the watch is worth more than the car?" My second thought was, "He's never parting with that watch."

Wear in good health and take care of it for the next generation.

I am very aware...I got a killer deal on the Honda fit at $5k, and given my motorcycle was $10k taxes in the watch is possibly worth more than both vehicles combined. Although to be honest you may not be correct in assuming I will never part with the watch. I am currently considering selling it and using the proceeds to buy a new Seamaster or Planet Ocean. It would better suit my taste in watches, my lifestyle and I am pretty sure it would have appealed to my father's pragmatic nature that his his daily wear could provide me with a more robust and practical daily wear. I am no rush to decide though and will enjoy it for the time being. Plus I have no idea of the Speedmaster's value or how might be the best way to sell it.

Well it’s your watch you do as you wish but to me the coolest part is you have something of your fathers. That being said he would probably be pleased if the watch served you In a way that suited you better. Good luck in whatever you choose.

2915-3 with Omega excerpt ? Bezel not good. How is the outside of the back? Crown correct? If yes to all, under the current market circumstances in a private sale around US $ 50.000. Auction maybe a bit better..... Kind regards. Achim...... You could join the vintage Rolex forum and sell there.... They have deep pockets.

Hey man, many congrats on bringing this watch back to glory! Planning to send my vintage Autavia abroad for service as well from Canada, wondering if the customs gave you any hard time when bringing it back. I heard that you'd have to pay VAT for the full price of a watch even it was just out for a repair. Not sure if it's that's the case.

I’m fairly new to the site but glad this thread has been bumped up, giving me a chance to read about this great story. Like a few had mentioned, I thought it was going to take a turn for the worse when you mentioned the Omega service centre!
