My name is Stewart, It's the first time that I've done something like this before besides texting, so I hope I get it right the first time.

I inherited my dads, vintage "Omega Naiad Medicus - July 18th - 1939"

Is it possible for someone to inform me please if it's possible to acquire an original strap or similar for my watch, I believe it's supposed to be a black cowhide, but how it's supposed to look or what size it's supposed to be, I don't know. Lastly, if anyone would know its value, please?... You won't be able to obtain an original original. You could try to find a replacement Omega strap, but IMO the best solution would be to find a nice leather strap from a reputable maker. Just measure the distance between the lugs and search for straps in that size, I think it's about 18mm.

There's a strap thread here somewhere, I'll see if I can find it.

Now the watch. It's a beauty and looks to be all original except for the crown.
It's a relatively valuable watch and to preserve it you should get it serviced before regular use.

Tell us your location and I'm sure you'll get some recommendations.

I’ll add you should make sure you do not bring it to a jeweler, and indeed you should wait until you get a referral to a trusted watchmaker from here.
Also you should ensure the case does not get polished, and that nothing be altered on the dial.
Finding another crown would be ok since it’s a replacement.

A good professional independent watchmaker servicing the watch should have replacement crowns.

As JimInOz said for the strap, it won’t be an «original original», but It’s not a big deal if a crown’s been replaced, that happens often for various reasons, but if you prefer the watchmaker could try find one that looks a little bit more like the original one, which is flatter.
It’s possible the original crown got more difficult to grab hold if your father wore the watch in his older age.
My mother had that problem with the original crown on her father’s watch.

Here’s a thread discussing Naiad watches, and below pictures from the Omega website.

    Hi Syrte,

I've seen the original black & white pic before, never thought about the crown not being as deep as mine flattened.

Would changing the crown alter the value?...

    No.
Most people here I believe would consider the value of the watch priceless because it comes from your father and the crown doesn’t change that. A replacement is a replacement.

Contact Simon Freese watchmakers in Essex - he's one of the best independent Omega specialists for service and may be able to source a crown (or if not might point you in the right direction)

Looking good Stewart. Finding an original/correct crown will be a real challenge as they probably haven't been made for about 50 years or more.

There are similar crowns that would look better than the "Bestfit" one currently on it. Just takes time searching for the right one.

As others have noted, a good watchmaker may be able to help when you get it serviced. I don't know if John Senior is still working, but I think he's in the North of England.

Maybe some UK members could advise further.

John Senior announced his semi retirement a couple years back, he’s working on his own projects and could still be reachable though...
