    Hi my friends

I recently found a mint 1971 speedy. I was glad because it was my birth year. Moreover it was mint, on a 1171 bracelet.
Si i asked Omega to have an extract of the archives. I was very surprised to discover that the watch was issued in 1974.I know this watch as a 32XXXXX movement which theorically makes a 73 or 74 but why would someone have changed the movement and why?
I would have understood if the mvt number was a 28 or 29 but I can't figure why a 1971 case and dial would have been fitted with a 74 movement and issued in 1974.
I'm short of considering that when one asks for an extract of the archives he's actually given the extract of the movement and not the watch.

    What is you opinion?

quartz watches were eating their lunch by then, so I would think movements would be dormant till a jeweler ordered a few. Cases were not made in-house.

The movement IS the watch, at least from Omega's perspective, right?

Hamilton had a BIG stash of 1920's movements they cased and sold as 1940's civilian watches, since all their production was mandated to be for the war effort.

The sub-reference year ( your 145.022-71?! ) is always the year where the sub-reference was introduced, not the production date ! Production typical ran 1-3 years after sub-reference intro. Depending on the model.

My own birthday watch ( minus a day) is one of the very first speedies produced in 1971. Serial 3100x and a reference 145.022-69.

My 71 has a 32.8xx.xxx movement and 1973 movement year from the extract. I am ok with it.

I think more strange is my 76 with a 31.6xx.xxx movement and 1971 movement year from the extract.

I could swap the movements and the dates would make more sense but I don't think Omega were selecting movements and cases to align years and why would they so long as it's the correct calibre, so I am not bothered. On other threads other OF members have also shared similar movement/case mismatches for 71,74 and 76 versions.

You got a nice watch enjoy it.

My guess... Many comps were struggling to survive in those dark years... And any batch of watches sold were a couple of grands they did not have before. So they did what was needed to get one (or 100) out of the door.

Your speedy's movement number is within range for the case production date and the watch looks very nice! Well done!

Doxa 300T Sharkhunter with Synchron case and US Divers Co dial. Super excited to welcome this one into the family. Will take some better photos later on.

Nice strap on that last one. It's one of those French paracord ones right?

Nice 861. With the older Speedmasters' prices heading up so steeply, the 70s Pros are bound to grow in value more quickly in coming months and years.
