But as a consolation prize I did negotiate a deal for this tasty little 95M driven piece, now winging its way to me here in the US from France. Its my first Movado. 18K rose gold 34mm Favre & Perret case, and supposedly dating to the 1940's or 1950's. The Anti-Magnetic text just below the hands leads me to believe that era of production is true. can anyone help me establish a date of production?

Given the serial number formatting the watch can be dated to pre-1966. Beyond that unfortunately, Movado M95s are a bit hard to date... If I were throwing out a guess I would say late 50s/early 60s.

Slique, I'm a big fan of that 36mm 90M you've landed. It is very visually appealing to me, and the condition is superb. the indices and numbers appear to be applied gold-really nice. I'm a sucker for 18K cases as well. Congratulations!

Did anyone here land that pristine 95M with the F Borgel waterproof case that was on eBay, listed from Brazil? I I saw it Monday night, fell in love and was formulating an offer to submit in the morning. Tuesday AM it was gone. You snooze- you lose...

Channeling Slique's comment in the OP: Slippery slope indeed...

Thanks, and congrats to you as well. But I'm sorry, that 18k M95 does not qualify as simply a consolation prize!

But the "Fat Watch" is my favorites...relatively new finds.

That ad is funny ... Marketing 101. If you have a modular chronograph movement that requires a thick case, sell it as a desirable feature. 馃檮

@CajunTiger that ad you posted is awesome! Need to find an original one to frame
I have one framed. Hard to find the version with Panda...there are several versions.

Absolutely a fan of vintage Movados.

I would put it on par with vintage Longines and vintage Tudors.

I've spoken with a collector who swears by Movado and says the Kingmatic is his favorite dress watch. Pretty hefty praise considering the caliber of this guy's collection.

Gorgeous watch you got there Slique. I think that Movado chronos are some of the very best looking ones out there.

Movado made fine watches back in the day. Nice to see the brand getting some recognition here. My first collector watch was Movado Acvatic that had been my dad's....still have it. Here are a few that get wrist time regularly.

That Acvatic is gorgeous, and such a neat case design. And great family story, too. Nice collection of Movados -with interesting backgrounds for the photos.

At watch fairs in Europe you can see some fine examples at the tables of the Italian dealers. I think its a bit like the same kind of collecting alley of the early UG compax. A lot too love

Thanks for that link, CaptainW, Its a great resource. I saw @slique12 's particular watch reference R9026 in that catalog.
Looking forward to seeing your new purchase with the Breguet numbers once it lands.

So here it is. I took a chance on it since the pics were terrible and not much of description. To my surprise it鈥檚 14k gold! and in beautiful condition. Basically stolen at the price I paid.

I never understood why Movado doesn't receive more attention from collectors. They make some exceptional watches of high quality, especially relative to other brands of similar vintage that get a lot of attention. Some of my earliest pieces were Movado (back when I had no idea what I was doing)...I bought this some 30 years ago. But the "Fat Watch" is my favorites...relatively new finds.
Love the fat watch ! Congratulations
