WHAT???? Probably empty oil tank 馃槈.

British bike has a bad reputation for leaking oil, off course the tolerances where different back then, but many hobby mechanics must take much of the blame. (cough me included cough)
The crankcases splitting vertically didn't help.
My RD200's crankcase split this way too and that leaked.
And the alloy of the Japanese engines were a lot softer than the British ones.

Agreed! Horizontal splitting seems obvious now!
When I stripped that RD200 down I replaced all the soft crosshead screws with with allen screws because the originals were a git to get out

I'm a big fan of Allen screws! Phillips are a pain!

This is me (12 yrs. old) on my mom鈥檚 bike. The back of the photo is stamped December 1975, but I remember the bike to be a 1976 Honda CB360T. Sorry for the quality, it鈥檚 a pic of a photo.
Since then I have had several street and dirt bikes ranging from 80cc to 500cc. Now I鈥檓 just too broken to ride anymore.

They were a nice modern looking bike at the time.
Then replaced the 250 and 360's with the J model which looked cheaper

I was lucky that my early aviation training exposed me to many cross head screw varieties. Phillips, PosiDrive, Reed & Prince, Dassault, Frearson etc.
As a result of seeing so many chewed screw heads on aircraft because some idiot had tried to use a R&P on a French screw (for example) I always double checked the type of screw, and therefore came to know of JIS screwdrivers.
I always used JIS on my Japanese bikes and never had any real issues and only once or twice had to resort to an impact screwdriver.
Still have a set of JIS even though I drive a European car and ride a German bike.

I think I resorted to clouting an impact driver to get the worst of those screws out.
I've still got some of the spanners and screwdrivers out of the japanese tool kits and a double-open ended BSA spanner which must be 80 years old but of no use whatsoever 馃槦

I love the Thruxtons.
If I was going to get another bike it'd be one of these.
I love the tip half fairing on yours, very retro.
The only thing I don't like on them, and it's a trivial thing, are the bar end mirrors.
The pipes are gorgeous too, I can almost hear them.
The T 120 is a classic in it's own right 馃憤

Thank you! Unfortunately, 2024 is the last year Triumph will produce the Thruxton. I hear you on the bar end mirrors, but I really love them because they give me a much better view of what's behind me. And, yes my Bonneville T-120 absolutely ROARS with its twin pea-shooter pipes

The Thruxton in my opinion is the best retro bike there is, I'll bet it's a favourite at the Ace Cafe.

Thank you. Interesting story I purchased the Bonneville from a gentleman who never rode it. He bought the motorcycle because he said it was "cool." At some point someone had painted the motorcycle blue/white so I had it repainted the proper color "Astral Red."

Also, you must wear the proper riding attire a Troy Lee Steve McQueen helmet and a Heuer Limited Edition Gulf Steve McQueen Monaco Timepiece.

Last week, after much anticipation and not quite enough patience, I finally took delivery of this little thing:

Yamaha XSR900 in Legend Red. While I prefer vintage to retro when it comes to watches, I don鈥檛 mind the latter at all on a bike. The only thing I鈥檓 missing on it at the moment are actual Marlboro stickers for the color scheme. 馃榿

I think we need more pictures please. It kind of reminds of the old xj series with the smaller faring.

I think the current problems with my hip joints mean the end of my motorbike career. This Honda Seven Fifty will be my last bike.
