Does John Bloor still own Triumph? They may be moving some production back to the UK. That can only be a good thing.

BSA, Royal Enfield and Norton are Indian owned. Modern Brough's are manufactured in the South of France but no idea who owns them.
It's Ariel that I've seen are being "made" again

Some are made here, some in Thailand.

My 09 Bonnie is at least pinstriped in Thailand, maybe the whole bike was made there. 70 000 km without any trouble, just changed worn parts.

This was the first of my John Bloor Triumphs that I got.
It had a hot cam in it and the Micron pipe sounded beautiful ; the bike went like stink.
I had it up to just under 180mph when it spat part of the spark plugs electrode out one day.
Only trouble was it was a bit lardy compared to the 'blade and R1

I feel a wee bit out-of-my-depth in the present company! All this amazing motorcycle metal and all I have to offer is my humble R.E. Interceptor 650! One of the photos shows my pal with me after he bought my BMW1150GS and I had just bought the 650. My wife has a 'mini Harley' 😉 (Keeway). We also have two BMW C1 200 scooters and there aren't many of those around!

Cheers Hen!
Aye, I love the 650 but it took a while after having the 1150GS, which was sooooo comfy!

Jim, you're absolutely correct ... the C1s are a wee bit 'nuts' but even as a lifelong motorcyclist, I love being on (in?!) them. They handle way better than they look like they should and will top 70mph. The acceleration is good too!

Hello Tubber ... from Wikipedia - John Stuart Bloor OBE (born 16 June 1943[1]) is a British billionaire businessman. His business, Bloor Holdings, owns both Bloor Homes and Triumph Motorcycles.[2]

My 750 had the 'Combat' engine but after reading many sad tales of destroyed main bearings, I took the head off and fitted the optional thicker head gasket which lowered the compression ratio to a more manageable level for the bearings!

How much thicker was the gasket ?
My mate had a Fastback that used to bathe his leg with hot oil 😲

That's one criticism I can't have of mine ... never leaked oil!

I can't remember the gasket thickness (this was 50+ years ago!) but it was maybe 2-3mm, considerably thicker than standard.

WHAT???? Probably empty oil tank 😉.

British bike has a bad reputation for leaking oil, off course the tolerances where different back then, but many hobby mechanics must take much of the blame. (cough me included cough)

From the net:
According to Service Release N3/23, the Combat RH3 compression ratio was only the full 10:1 with the standard 0.030" head gasket and -no base gasket.
9.7:1 with a base gasket (9.8:1 according to Service Release N3/21).
