Most useful complication...for you...

I used to think my most-used complications were day/date, followed by the dive bezel.

But since I received my grandfather's old 1969 Seiko Bell-matic, I've become a great fan of the alarm. I set it for any dumb reason I can justify an alarm for. Need to wake up at 6am? Set an alarm. Need to make a phone call at 11? Set an alarm (even if my computer dings at me five minutes before my meeting). Need a coffee break at 2? Set an alarm (even if I'm very aware when 2pm comes about). Need to be reminded to look at watch? Set an alarm. The alarm rings for just 5-10 seconds, but it's loud enough to wake me up, and is so endearing in a mechanical bell kind of way.

Dont get me wrong I love the Bell-Magic, I have about a dozen now-and I think enough parts and cases for maybe 5 more. But to me the alarm isn鈥檛 loud enough to wake me, but the buzz on the wrist is great to use as a reminder sort of alarm.

I'm still love this, but got to say I am missing date function, I don't know how long it will take me before I stop checking for it.

This collection is truly missing a 806 navitimer. Awesome lineup!
LOL...yes it is. Ive actually considered buying one on multiple occasions, but never pulled the trigger. The dial is just too busy for my taste otherwise Id probably have a few by now 馃榾

But eventually Im sure I'll break down and add one.

Chronograph for me...

Incidentally, has anyone ever devised a complication that counts down time instead of counting up? Apart from an LCD watch, etc.

Watches designed for yachting events, regattas, etc. Typically include this feature to time down from 10 or 5 minutes until the start of the race.
What application do you have in mind?

For me the ultimate watch with this function is the Glash眉tte Original Panoretrograph. It has a normal forward counting chronograph, and also a countdown timer with chime...unfortunately limited to 50 pieces and I was lucky enough to handle one of these back in the day...

I love my chronograph. Use it for all sorts of things. Timing how long my lunch break is, use it for billing time for billable hours. cooking, timing how long my wife has been out at target for. You know, gangster shit.

I find a countdown bezel very handy. Sinn makes several models with such a bezel. As someone mentioned, many vintage regatta timers have a countdown bezel, but they can be pricey and hard to come by.

The Ulysee Nardin Sonata Alarm Dual Time has both a regular alarm complication (at 3), but also a countdown alarm complication (at 9) - with a chime much like a minute repeater:

Chronograph for sure. I love to cook and am usually trying out a new recipe. And, who doesn't cook a rib eye steak with his Chrono in place? Tong-wounds add charm once they're considered to be "patina."

ha! 馃槵 Is/was a recycled photo, and surprised you could even make out the month indicator in that photo. Was particularly lazy, as it鈥檚 on my wrist. (But as for the date, maybe you were reading the 24hr?)

MIA CULPA!

Chronograph for sure. What the Apollo 13 Team used to get back to earth, is perfect for me to time my cup of tea 馃榿

Chronograph with 60 min bezel. Currently I use my Seiko SNJ025 Arnie re-issue in the kitchen as it鈥檚 my only chronograph also equipped with a 60 min bezel and I often need to time two things at once.

I thought so too. But you would still need to manually adjust as it moves to Feb 30th and not March 1.

Chronograph complication for me.

I used it a lot when reheating expressed milk for my daughter before she started formula.
Also used every morning to time my espresso shots to fine tune the extraction.
