Most desirable gold content?

Hello,

I'm wondering which would be preferable in the eyes of a collector, 9ct solid gold or 18k filled/capped, assuming all other variables to be comparable. Any insight anyone's able to offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a million

Solid 18K over 14K over 9K (which isn't actually considered gold in many non British Empire jurisdictions), over filled/capped*, over tidy plated, over worn/brassed plated.

Some including myself would put Steel into that list after 9K and before filled/capped or plated by the way.

*I'll be honest I don't know the exact difference here but I don't think it changes the order either way.

9ct solid over 18ct capped/filled and another vote for steel over capped/filled in terms of value/desirability

There are a lot of people who prefer SS over any form of gold, which is why I left it off.

True. I’m probably one of them.

When you get into mega bucks, many stainless versions are more desired than the PM alternative (perhaps less so over the last couple years actually)

I don't mind filled or capped as long as it's good condition. Costs less that way and who can tell just by looking at my wrist?

Some people prefer 9k over 18k as it’s often less “yellow”. Certainly I’ve had 9k watches which I’ve preferred over the 18k versions. Of course the 18k will always sell for more.

The gold plated watches are most less desirable models for a collector. The gold plated most of the time is gone on the edges of the case and the watch do not look good at all. So 100% solid gold 9k than gold plated.

I also prefer stainless steel over all other materials. I uinderstand the rationale for the gold "hierarchy," but I find that gold cap is the best overall compromise for value and durability.

18K WG > Steel > 14K YG > 18K Rose > 18K Yellow > Coated for me 😀

For C-Case's 14K is rarer and can be paired with regular 14K coated steel bracelets, and the colors go against conventional colors I believe, as 14K is very slightly yellower and it's a more cooler color - so it likely changes from model to model and case manufacturer to case manufacturer (and eye to eye)

I really wish I could wear a WG C-Case but the rarity prevents me from it, the weight/heft is just incredible, definitely beats steel by a wide margin

For me, stainless steel, rose gold, solid or capped, don't care much about anything else, unless it has an interesting dial or case.

As had been said here many times before, condition, condition, condition pretty much trumps all.

I never could get exited about gold. Guess I am more moon than sun. It always irks me that so many fascinating watchs have been scrapped for the gold content. Having grown up 3rd generation with family from the California gold fields, I find gold common. One simply goes to a creek or river after a rain, and pulls it out of the riverbed. The multinational global corporations which own the so called mineral rights have no interest in this as mining it would flood the markets and crash the economy. Most of the so called gold 'investments' are over subscribed. There is also quite a bit of difference between what one purchases gold for verses when one can sell it for. Many of the cash for gold buyers tend to trade on ignorance and desperation.

Curiously the California (also Canadian and Australian) 'gold rushes.' Did crash the world economy. There is some evidence that the 1849/52 market crash caused Babbage to abandon the difference engine, and set computational computing back 130 years.

Ironically I just got a gold capped over stainless 566.015 dynamic case as a bonus (I wanted the band.) This sadly was a bit over polished.

speaking of omega, I have seen very few cases coated with gold. my thought. omega used the initials KO on the reference with gold-coated cases. Correct me if I'm wrong.
