I went with the FOIS. I got it for a solid price on Ebay and then got 15% off through Ebay on a promotion they were running at the time. I like the smaller feeling case size.

I plan to pick up a 60s-70s Speedmaster at some point so I like the idea of having the FOIS which will be a different hand combination.

Those promotions are nice--basically getting the watch tax/fee free. I also prefer the FOIS size because of my wrist size.

Do you know which model you're going to be getting?

I got the FOIS first in 2017 since at the time I didn't like the big box the 1861/1863 Speedy Pro's came in. I got a Snoopy 50 in November 2021 to count as a Speedy Pro.

I hope Omega comes out with a 3861 FOIS with a thinner case in steel. I would definitely get one if they do.

You didn't like the big box? That was a joy to open.

I agree with the case-back being thick--I always notice that the FOIS and the CK2998 stand tall.

No I didn't. Only time I'd make an exception for the big box is if I ever got an EW 321.

It’s the same box !
I don’t get why some people don’t like the bigger box with the extra goodies. Maybe if one lives in a single room apartment .

The Spiralwinder display case back for the FOIS does absolute wonders and fixes this issue.

Not that I would ever risk voiding a warranty... but the display caseback for the FOIS takes it down a mm or two and from everything i hear 😗 it is more comfortable too. https://www.spiralwinderwatchparts....exhibition-caseback-for-the-omega-speedmaster

edit: and i should have scrolled down and seen several others recommend too, anyway, the link is still helpful 😀

Thanks for letting me know about the spiralwinder. I am often a purist about these things but am going to have to look into it.

Google translation tells me the French word FOIS translates to TIME, in English. How apropos!

I know it's the same box. I just prefer not to have a giant box in my closet that I'm never going to use again. Like I said, if I were able to get the EW 321 I would of course get it big box and all. I just wouldn't get the normal Speedy that came with a big box.

It hurts reading how much you hate the box. It's a good box.

Honestly, the case back alone has kept me from even looking into the FOIS. I realize it’s just a case back and rarely seen, but I just don’t get it. I barely understand why my moonwatch has the inscriptions it does on it. Would really prefer they offer a sterilized case back with just speedmaster professional on it

I agree, but the same can be said about the Speedy Pro to a certain extent. I remember when MSRP was $4k not too long ago and now it’s pushing $7k. I’m sure those who have been around longer will recall even lower prices. I’m glad I bought one when I did. The Speedmaster has been a great value given its history/stature and I worry that those days are numbered as Omega continues its upwards trajectory.
MSRP on my 3570.50 was $3800 in 2011

They did. Up until 1969. Get a Pre-Moon, job done.

Don't get too hung up on the back thickness. It really isn't al that bad. I have an Ed White with a thin plain back and if you sit them flat, some of the difference is in the back and some is in the crystal but it is still only around a mm total. The FOIS wears fine and should be compared in thickness with the Speedy Sapphire Sandwich which it is about the same as, rather than the Hesalite model which it is about a mm thicker than. If I can find the photo I have of them flat on a table I will add it here. No Speedy with the 321/861/1861/3861 is all that thick really, the fattest is probably the Snoopy 3, and that seems to sell pretty well!

I meant that the inscription on the FOIS is even more silly than the moonwatch. Don’t know anything about the relative thickness.

That's got to be worth like 3 MoonSwatches.

Hi , I'm new to omega and really want to buy a speedmaster, but am torn between the moonwatch professional or the fois, any tips or recommendations please. I have a budget of £5000.
Also which one is the better investment watch.
Thanks Steve..
You may be able to find a good 145.022 69 for £5000. Otherwise I'd buy the current standard Moonwatch. It is a great watch.
