I'm not a fan of the Alaska. Sure it's neat when you first see it with the red case, but the mercury capsules are a turn off. Now the other white speedies, Japanese Panda or Italian silvered dial... me want.
At the Omega museum I've learned they call these Gemini capsule like hands...
Codenaam for Speedmaster parts other than the movement = Alaska, all movements parts were codenamed after birds (Albatross, Aracari)

It all depends on what type of office meeting or strenuous activities you're referring too 馃槈
LOL. For that kind of strenuous activities, i would find the red donut too distracting. Maybe a big turn off for the other party involved as well. On the bright side, the donut would prevent accidental scratches, spillage and stain.

I love it, but the price gave me pause when it was under $4k so at $6k...I'm out. I did pick up a mitsukoshi dial.

If the Omega Gods deem it so and they bring a panda out at Basel then I am onto it and the LE reservation will pass to the next on the waiting list. Really? Yeah, really!

I'm really hoping they release a non LE reverse panda.

This thread kind of makes me sad. I bought an Alaska project under retail right when it came out from an AD. I never wore it, just had it sitting in the safe and started to think to myself that this is a big, ugly watch and nothing is going to ever come of it so I sold it on ebay and pretty much got my money back. Just goes to show you that sometimes the big and "weird" watches are the ones to keep. SMH 馃う

Perhaps an example as to why you buy and hold a watch because it sings to you and not because something will "come of it". Any increase in value is a by-product imho., but I do understand what you're saying and feeling, but if you had "loved" that watch I am sure you would still have it. You don't miss the watch you miss the profit. As has been said to me on many occasions, "that'll teach ya, mate" 馃榿

Watches are made for wrists, not for the dark, cold, metal safe...馃檮

Did you buy it because you liked it or because you were hoping to make money on it?

Here's one that popped up on eBay...

https://www.ebay.com/itm/322388404556

Local pickup only in NY.

It's difficult for me to justify the price...when you could pick up a nice vintage Moonwatch or a Rolex Sub instead.

They were not intended to be resemble capsules, and the prices have been between 6500 and 7500 in recent sales. The AP is a great watch and I don't recall it ever being not liked, as a rule. Again, to each her own. I'll never understand the need some have for saying negative things about items that others clearly like. We aren't all going to like the same watches.

$7500 is really high, IMHO, these have been selling for $6000 recently, and could be had for $4500 as early as beginning of this year.

Depressing ha ha. You could get two in 2017 for the price of one today.

I really like the Alaska. Cool history and like someone said, total nerd watch which I am okay with 馃憤.

I made the mistake of not buying an Alaska Project at Singapore airport about 5 years back, have regretted it ever since 馃檨

Maybe an Alaska Project is next on Omega's LE list
