Yes! Quite a nice read and more interesting info about the Alaska Project. I especially liked the possibility of having more scales on the watch. That would have been neat to see.

Added some slides to my lecture, elaborating about the (marketing) genius behind the fact Omega watches ended up with the Russians

Well our question has been answered at today's SpeedyTuesday event in Bienne Switzerland...
Omega reintroduces the 321 caliber/movement...
To protect this project, they used the Alaska 11 code name. Completely in line with the names Omega used in the past for secret Speedmaster designs for NASA.

Well, I guess thanks to Mr Petros Protopapas for revealing some documents on the procurement of the Alaska II Project watches and outer cases by the Soviet Space Program in late 1975/76 for their Salyut-6 sace station program... during the #SpeedyTuesday event of January 8th, 2019.
However IMHO some bread crumbs as it's about time that Omega brings the complete story of their Alaska Project and its use in spaceflight 🍿
As promised, I'll talk about the details I have about this in all my upcoming FREE lectures (yes I'm solely an enthusiast on spaceflight doing voluntary work for almost 5 decades)

Ahh maybe we will cross paths one day and you can give me a run down! I always loved the Alaska Project and it’s history since it was my first Speedy but you uncovering the entire story makes me more fascinated. Thanks for working hard and sharing your knowledge!

It's my pleasure... just wanted to mention that our " Alaska IV " contest to win a MoonwatchOnly book is still running ( use the search on this forum) and I'll be handing out some Spaceflight/Speedie gifts at our next GTG 👍

It has been 50 years since the Omega Alaska Project Speedmaster has been revealed to NASA astronauts.
However as Apollo 20 was cancelled in January 1970 and Apollo 18 + 19 in September 1970, the Alaska Project did fly with the Soviet-Russians as the ultimate " space watch" to be used on their Salyut-6 space station in 1977...
Can't wait to hear the complete Alaska Project story as we have heard... It's all in the Omega Archives !

I know it’s not the same, but this is my best shot at the Alaska IV. Except it’s not an Alaska IV and it’s with a Mil-spec strap accurately made to match the straps used in the shuttle missions. I stared at countless photos of the shuttle missions and really didn't see anything that screamed Alaska IV, but based on the Alaska III, I configured the strap similar to how they have worn it (Dr. William E. Thornton). Also, I’m not an astronaut, just an enthusiast. I believe the offer stands to find a picture of the Alaska IV used in shuttle missions.

Super nice and the watch is in amazing condition !

Here is a shot of my Alaska IV prototype on a Apollo 11 Press Kit

and more relevant publication, another shot on a Space Shuttle System description Manual head to head with a Seiko Astronaut A829-A6019 (only 80 numbers away from Wubbo Ockels one)

Yes the offer still stands, he or she who can provide a NASA picture ( preferably with official NASA photo number ) showing the quartz Alaska IV Speedmaster being used aboard a space shuttle mission will get an authors signed 2017 edition of the Moonwatch Only book !

Rather than start a new thread I figured I'd try this one to ask an AP question. Does anyone know of a source for the white straps sold with the AP or an aftermarket strap that is close?

I bought one in the boutique around 2 years ago, took a long time to come but was available from factory. They might still sale them, try asking

Hi, I have an AP and purchased an extra strap to wear to keep the box set intact. My OB ordered it and arrived quickly but appeared to be different in quality from the the original (see photos) and my awesome OB agent sent the information to Omega HQ and the went about redoing the straps from a different manufacturer (I think) hence the longer delivery for the previous poster. After about 8 months I received the new redone OEM strap which is almost indistinguishable from the original.
