The guy who buys up private watches and then lists them on eBay is back again. Among many other watches, he lists a 5513: VINTAGE ROLEX SUBMARINER AUTOMATIC MEN WATCH REF. 5513 | eBay
The case is incredibly sharp, so I asked a dealer friend if it looked fake. He said it looks genuine, but pointed out the 5 o'clock lug. Oops. Guess I'll take that off my eBay watchlist.

I probably wouldn't but watches from a guy who sells Rolex but doesn't have a digital camera made in the last 10 years. Photos that bad means there is something to hide.

I think it is rather like one of the oldest trick in the book: use bad pictures to look like an uninformed/amateur seller. Easier to catch buyers, thinking they have a chance to get an undiscovered bargain.

Surely this short lug could be fixed with some laser welding assuming the rest of the watch is what its supposed to be?

Or are the other three lugs replacements?

A very obvious fake even if you completely ignore the short, stocky lugs. Overall finish is nowhere Rolex grade.

Well definitely not totally original, the dial has been done. Overpolished case, etc. would not buy this one.

Tears for Fears! The back of the watch has clearly had the crap polished/buffed out of it. The body of the watch has much to crisp edges.

Oh wow, just by looking at the listing, I would not be able to tell it’s fake.
