I thought some of you might be interested to see the final result of my project.

After all of the effort I had put in, I decided not to attack the case myself as there was too much metal polished out of it. I found a case on eBay that was in good shape but re-brushed to a patchy satin finish and had a low offer accepted. STS treated it to a lap dance and got it back on Friday.

Firstly a reminder of the seller's photo:

How it is now:

Back on its 1162:

...and finally introduced to its brother:

Maybe I need to find a racing dialed one to complete the set.

All that remains is a massive thanks to Al for all of his help and to the rest of you for all of your comments.

Thanks. I have just re-read the whole thread and hope I don't sound too smug in saying that I am actually proud of my achievement with this one. I think it may stay on my wrist all week.😀

I`m late to the party but I want to congrat for your great work!

And ad an info for the needed crystal tool:

They`re out of production for decades now and AFAIK you can`t buy them new but they pop up from time to time on the net.
Just when you have the chance to grab one be sure to have the complete set of tension rings with it.
This tool is not from Mido itself but you need it for watches like Mido Commander and Zentra Savoy and others so this tool can have different brandings or no branding at all.
AFAIK there is a similar vintage tool from Citizen to.

EDIT:
I stumbled on this thread where Al is so kindly to show the original Omega tool:
https://omegaforums.net/threads/crystal-gasket-for-speedmaster-145-014.20134/
Which is sadly out of production to.

Does anyone have the exact dimensions of that Omega 9028 tool? As I want to see if our workshop can make me one. I am in the process of completing a Speedmaster professional ii with a racy dial. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Is it possible to deduce the dimensions from the crystal itself?

I had a sapphire glass replacement for the mineral crustal fitted to my Mark II after going through 3 of the mineral glass crystals.

The guy who fitted it didn't have the specialist tool, but used his own set up, that was 3D printed, I believe.

Hi all. I found the dimensions of this tool. Then I got a friend of mine to machine it out of a specialized hardened polymer. And it accurate to 2 one hundreds of a millimeter. I had him make me a few. So if any one wants to get their hand on an Omega 9028 tool, give me a direct message.
