I’ll start.... I wasted money on eBay shitters when I could have gotten pristine examples in excellent condition from here.

I bought vintage Omega's without doing extensive research (fortunately I got lucky however and the couple I bought are fine).

I can't say I made mistakes because I didn't have Omega Forums; my mistakes were made before the forum existed.

But I did make mistakes because I was in a hurry and didn't take the time to think and look. For example, I believed Omega when they said my 2627 with no bezel was supposed to be gold capped when my eyes told me it was an all-stainless version.

An Ebay purchase mere weeks before joining the Forum.

Ya' mean they do re-dials?!!!

Doubly galling since, in a locale that pays little attention to watches, this is the only watch here that generates approving compliments. The shameless hussy!

I still make mistakes.
But they have become more specific and neurotic. 😁

Joining TRF
Trev and I actually did meet originally on TRF and there are some good people there, its just not as open to other brands as I’d like and that’s one of the reasons I like having Zenith, Longines, Seiko, Rolex and variety here even if it is Omega in the title.

I think aside from depressing the price of junk grade poor condition watches and redials, turning people off the Speedmaster Reduced is probably one of I’ve been most involved in.

I’m new to vintage but was lucky and found OF before making my first mistake with a brown Speedy on Ebay.

OF saved me. But I’m sure there are still mistakes to come!

I bought a 105.012-66 Speedmaster not knowing that there were two case manufacturers for this particular reference... HF and CB, and neither did the seller. The watch has a HF midcase but a CB caseback.

I still have the watch, which has a very deep rich patina dial, what attracted me to the watch, and a very good condition caseback and midcase. I now have a pet project, no rush... find a 105.012-66 HF caseback in great condition... no easy task.

All true but, that said, it’s still a nice looking watch with an Omega movement, case and hands and, sixty years ago, it would have been par for the course to have it re-dialled.

Sending a vintage Speedmaster Professional to Omega for service. BIG mistake.

I think it was summer of 2014 when the Shameless Hussy came here to roost. It's odd to consider that the common redial copy of that style of dial didn't cost any more than it did at the time. Now the myriad redials of that type seem to command a premium on Ebay and dupes are still buying. I was going to stop at $200, but was stampeded to $212. Or, perhaps that wasn't such a hot deal in 2014.

The Shameless Hussey really should go all the way with a different set of hands. Those hands are correct for the 520 movement original to this Seamaster, but look all wrong on with that dial.

Lack of patience and focus will be mine, though, not sure it has improved since joining here

And pocket watches... All of the above with their dedicated discussion sub-forums... Just saying 😁
Bye

I found OF right as I was about to pull the trigger on a watch from a problem seller. Some of the other members here warned me right before I was about to buy it, so I didn't go through with it.
