Missing the White watch in my collection

Hi guys,

I've been through so many changes to my collection.
Most recently I added a new Sub with date in black, and I am satisfied with the dark diver definitely filled it for me.
Though I was surprised for my wrist, the omega and grand seiko bracelets aren't bad and probably equally if not more comfortable for me, I think Rolex has a lot of BS hype that oversells every aspect of the watch.

Anyway, back to the question, I miss the WHITE dial watch segment.
Mainly as I had two formidable contenders and I sold them, partially did not appreciate they where worth their prices and after paying much more for the Sub this conviction is now reversed.

My current watches to stay: 126610LN (black sub), Seamaster electric blue, Aqua terra blue bond vertical lines, Oris aquis 43.5 Green, and probably my speedmaster hesalite

My current watches to go: Nomos Tangente 38 date, Seiko Tuna SBBN031, SPB143 (grey), SARX035 (too similar to the aqua terra minus colour black, then too similar to the Sub with it's rich black), maybe a seiko monster, SBDC065 (seiko black/blue diver).

So as you can see I can return 4-5K USD back on these watches, and what would perfect the collection is a nice white watch, I can alternatively sell the Oris diver in green and get the new seamaster in green, but I will have a big itch for a white watch, unresolved.

Prior to selling these two great white watches I was surprised even in an omega forum slightly more i.e. almost 52% voted I keep the Snowflake SBGA211, and 48% voted I keep the Seamaster 300 White diver. Practically equal. Everyone said sell the nomos instead.

So I honestly didn't find a very different choice to repurchase, here are my current WHITE watch contenders:

1) Seamaster 300 White again. I may get in silicon strap this time. I never stopped seeing the pattern when the sunlight hits, very dynamic. Omega a more recognized and favoured name by most people. It looks like a more expensive watch, the work 'shows' not as subdued, and it's sporty.

2) SBGJ201 Mt Iwate. similar to the snowflake, but some improvements for me: GMT, no power reserve dial, much sexier 44GS case, but too thick, and similar to the snowflake you need to look really close to appreciate the dial and workmanship there. Maybe being steel and heavier will feel psychologically more hefty and positive. I think on straps looks definitely better than my previous snowflake on straps too.

I think the side profile is nicer and far less thick on the omega. But I also know the less popular Omega seamaster GMT's are equally terribly thick, and rolex gmt's have less thickness but are too similar to the more favoured submariner (in my taste) so I won't put it as a huge point against them.

Just wanted to see some votes for the Mt Iwate or the Seamaster or any suggested White watch. tbh it may be as simple as that a white watch isn't for me so this is just a thought I may accept that too.

Regards
Haider

I actually prefer white dials. I like the Seamaster. I just bought one earlier this month and love it. I like the waves and the contrast with the black bezel. I know a lot of people don’t like the bracelet but I’ve found it to be quite comfortable. The only thing that I didn’t like is the clasp malfunctioned 4 days after receiving it so I had to mail the bracelet back to Omega and it’s a month and half wait getting it back.

didn’t realize they were 38mm Omega did a great job with that, imo of course I’ve never seen one IRL
I haven’t either. They seem to have jumped in price the last couple years, significant jump over SMPc300 above. There is a London Olympic version with a different case back (worse in my opinion) that was significantly less expensive. It’s been a couple years since I really pursued one though.

It seems that “jumped in price” is a quite common statement these days I’m waiting for the transitory part to kick in. Although it’s a beautiful watch at that price I could think of many others I’d choose but I can admire from afar.

That is really nice, I agree though $7K USD, is too much. had the flagship longines heritage one 38.5 mm, most similar thing I had to this, though was creamy colour with golden indices but was at 25% the price of this, and it did feel elegant. I may rethink Cream colours too, just harder to match with clothing I feel it loses a lot of the practicality of white dials.

I like the idea of the white SMP but feel like it walks a strange line. It’s too sporty to be a dress watch but the white dial makes it feel less like a sport watch. It feels right on the golf course but not as a dive watch… I’m a huge fan of the SMP in general, but I feel like the white dial isn’t it’s best option.

To be fair if anyone handed me either of your options I’d wear the hell out of them, both are great.

Some alternatives for you

or if you want to keep costs low but bang for buck high try the new Christopher Ward C65 Aquitaine range. They have finally removed the name from the dial (the biggest complaint previously) leaving a relatively sterile but attractive dial that fits somewhere between Rolex and Omega visually. It also has one of the best ratcheting, micro-adjust bracelet clasps. I personally have had two C65 GMTs, the first of which I gave to my father as a birthday present, so I can attest to the quality and thinness of the GMT version.

My C65s for reference

Thanks man,
These speedmasters look amazing in these photos, definitely if I get them would sell my speedy pro hesalite, but still makes sense, in White looks nice... (I know the snoopy dog edition is ridiculously expensive so def out of budget)
Your suggestion made me remember the new tudor panda range chrono's also v.nice

so now I'm considering:

1) GS Mt Iwate SBGJ201
2) Speedmaster's you suggested, only if their price is reasonable i.e. ~ 5K USD, new or mint used
3) Seamaster 300 White
4) Tudor white panda chronos

Ouch man thats harsh
The seamaster in white definitely looks like a more loud luxury watch the brand and bond hands help and it shows, assuming Mt Iwate is like snowflake it would be very very subtle and a brand most humans dont appreciate lol

Plus the 14.2mm thickness is the worst of all the 4 options. Many said if wear shirts forget about it.

But im so far (given my collection too and its a gmt) still interested in the mt iwate sbgj201 or its titanium newer brother sbgj211.

with titanium the lightweight 107g can serve as another unique thing in my collection, even though i like some heft i do recognize my wrist occ sore from wearing my other watches

From these two i would go with GS.

Otherwise i really like silver dials from JLC, such as Master Contol Date, or the older Master Grand Taille. Or the Master Reveil or master geogrsphics.

My choice (has a nice alarm function):

Yes very nice one too thanks

I also thought of the New King Seiko edition SJE083
37.5 mm, looks amazing, I think it's silver, it's not cheap about $4400 AUD, and honestly the grand seiko's we were talking about are only $1000 more used.

To make it relevant to the Omega forum, if someone knows of an Omega or Longines or similar swiss offering for around the same price, would be very interested to explore those.

Here are some King Seiko pics, definitely a dress watch, but can be all rounder and I'm sure the height/thickness will be reasonable.
I think this compares very much to my Nomos Tangente 38 and I think it's a nicer offering but too expensive.

This one’s nice, paid 5k for it a few years back. They’ve gone up slightly though so getting that price now might be hard.
