and It does keep poor time since I filled it...... but it was called a canteen?!

False advertising on Elgin's part, but they did sucker the navy into buying them.

Does the ref CK2998-5/Y22666 ring a bell for a military watch? I'm very skeptical about the watch.

No. The Y code would be on a WWII era ref 2444.

Looks like fake engravings. Original engravings were stamped and used a different font shape. This watch markings look etched snd the wrong font. You can do a google search for images of "Omegas WWW" and find several legitimate examples of correctly marked watches.

Hmmm weird

Say it again! I love hearing that 😁
PS : the "officer" one is not 3286 but 2988. I made a mistake.

It is definitely not an officer!

Firstly it is lacking the Officer wording on the dial

Secondly the officer had a cal. 26.5 inside not a cal. 30 !

The photo of the OP shows clearly a Cal. 30

Hmmmm, that's why I said "looks like". Here's an ad from 1942. Looks similar and with a 30 cal. The chamfrain on the lugs is not the same.
Hm my pic does not load
