Might sell my Speedmaster

I have a Speedmaster 145.022-69 ST that I’m thinking of selling. My dream was to send this off to a specialist who could unify the dial and hands, restore the original crown and pushers, and ensure the case is waterproof. Some changes in my life and condition have convinced me that it is likely not to happen in my lifetime. I’m not in dire need to money but the money could be useful and that’s what has brought me to consider this action.

My brother expressed some interest in it, but that could have just been him wanting to help me out. It would be good because I might be able to see some part of my dream come true and have some say in its future. Another option is to sell it to a dealer or on consignment. I’d guess this would be quick but I probably wouldn’t get the best money out of it. It’s also impersonal and I'd have to find this reputable dealer. The last option is to sell it here. This would make me feel good, I’d know it go the right person, and it would be an easy transaction.

It was serviced by @Archer in 2013. It runs on my wrist +/-1 spd. The crystal is original to when I bought it. The watch was not polished during this service and doesn’t appear to have been polished in the past. The bezel is an old DO90 original to the watch when I bought it. The pushers are original to when I bought it, the crown is a recent service crown. The watch didn’t pass water testing. Archer said there was some corrosion in the case back seal area that he thought would prevent it from passing water testing but the pushers are also original and old so there may be hope. There is very small damage on the outer perimeter on the dial at approximately 14 minutes. It is hard to see as it falls within the curved area of the crystal. The watch came with a full length ref. 1039 bracelet with 516 end-links in what I think is great shape. The clasp is marked No.13 and 3 70. The serial is 305xxxxx. I think it falls between Good and Very Good.

I tried to remove the case back but all I have is a cheap Jaxa tool and I don’t want to slip and mark the case back up.

I have the original parts, along with the other parts Archer returned for the other watches he’s serviced for me, but I can’t find them right now. I put them all in one box before the move and I haven’t found the box I put the box in. In have the the PDF that Archer includes with every service.

Looking at the pictures below, what should I expect to get for it? Head only? W/bracelet? The bracelet would work well on my SM300.

Maybe this can be moved to the Private Sales forum?

Edit: sorry, I see you would need to add a price first. But otherwise it's already a sales listing.

I think you’ve already said it. It’s between good and very good. It’s hard to tell precisely where as there aren’t a large number of photos. As a seller, that’s a call for you to make then hope a buyer agrees with you.

I'd take better pictures for sale purposes. I'm still talking to my brother about it. I'm just going to have ask him straight out if he really is considering it or just trying to help. It's just hard because we both work and live on opposite sides of the country.

Totally agree. It comes down to the seller's attitude. Do you want to put a price on it where it is attractive and will sell quickly? Or do you want to try to squeeze every penny out of the sale and take the chance that the listing will sit and get stale. It's the seller's job to set the price, and we can't sell the watch for him.

Looking at the watch and the bracelet I would be tempted to go with the latter option. Try and squeeze every penny out of the sale. It would appear to be in the upper area of desirability?

You're right. Asking for a price is wrong. I really just needed reassurance that my assessment was in the ballpark.

Very attractive example certainly better than most I see for sale. Were I selling such a watch I would easily choose OF Private Sales over other alternatives. Best wishes whatever you choose, it looks great I wouldnt do a thing to it (other than finding the spare parts and service video before listing).
