Someone pictured a vintage Marvin watch in WRUW. Have spent the last few hours searching and learning about this brand. Love the starfish back that some of them have. While I look for one of my own, I thought we could start a picture thread. Show your Marvins!

I am a Marvin fan, and own several. They made some very nice watches, and are typically undervalued in the vintage market.

I had been watching this Flying Dutchman but it sold this morning. It suddenly dawned on me that the Flying Dutchman was in the bottom half or the dial, rather than below the Marvin logo. I did a Google search and only found a ladies watch like that. Thoughts? I, honestly, have no idea.

Well, first I would say that there were a fairly wide variety of variations of the Flying Dutchman model, including, I believe both an alarm and chronometer version. So it would not be a surprise to see some dial variations. Also, I doubt that anyone would go to the trouble of adding a good copy of the model name to a regular Marvin, as the difference in value is not especially big. Finally, the case and bezel on the one you show is consistent with the FD model line. So...my guess is that it is genuine.

Thanks @Tony C. This is a tough one to educate myself on as there don't seem to be a lot of examples out there. Somewhere there's a mother lode of examples waiting to be discovered.

    Marvin no. 1:

    20180801_091444.jpg

Marvin No.2: been looking for one of these since @efauser showed his, and glad to see @Tony C. appreciates them too! Crystal may need a polish/swap, and so may the crown...can't wait to see what movement's inside.

Edit - judging by the advertisement below, this might actually be a original crystal, so only the crown is a worry.

I did receive a very nice email from the seller who said that this was a piece of family history, so I may follow up later once it's arrived ;)

So my Flying Dutchman arrived! Original (if worn) crown and crystal. A bit foggy but that's age for you...

Movement is a 795/aka Felsa 692, which is a Bidynator! Now I'm unsure as to whether these came out first in terms of Flying Dutchman models or if they were later...still, very pleased.

Do you know if what term is used to describe those lugs? Teardrops?

    Here's another shot.

I would call them claw lugs.
