Does the 'Marvin' brand ring any bells?

Marvin made a few calibers that were used by other brands. Longines and Election rebadged Marvin's manual wind caliber 700.

    Longines 490:

    Election 875:

Note that both reshaped the bridges showing when the back of the watch was opened, but the dial side is virtually identical:

    very cool info, Dennis, Thanks!

I like that it's an old brand, that was 're-invented' (perhaps, mostly by name only) after the quartz crisis, and Marvin is also a name that is somewhat dear to me professionally...

Not sure at what price point to make an offer, but I'm on the verge...

    Dennis, ya think this one's an in-house caliber(the 560)?

Don't know enough about Marvin to say yes or no. ::shy:: I only knew the above because it related to Longines. :whistling:

Marvin is an underrated brand, in my view, and their vintage offerings often represent good value. I happen to like their Flying Dutchman models (cross-marketed with KLM airlines), and you can see a couple of mine below.

The one to which you linked looks like a very nice watch. Probably borderline in terms of price, but I wouldn't be shocked if someone went for it.

    Regards,

    Tony C.

    Great information, guys, thanks!

Dr. Ranfft appears to be highly respected. What's his story?

to the experts,,, have just bought a marvin of about 1945, with a 560 movement..cant at the moment post a picture... the stem is missing, but watch runs well, can be wound up by rotating the cog with a pin...i can buy a winding stem on ebay, but wish to know the thread for fitting the winding button, do they differ according to the calibre maker ?
