Hello there. I'm searching for someone with any info on a timepiece I have. It's one of a kind and I believe to be pre Omega. Pre 1900s Swiss made by Louis Brandt and Frerrer. It has a solid brass base and sits in a gimbal assembly. It looks like it sat on a desk to hold down maps in a captain's quarters. I have seen nothing like it before. Very unique. Who do I ask for any info in regards to my timepiece. I'll post pictures soon. Thanks for your time. Jeremy.
I would think the word chronometer might apply, rather than chronograph. More information might be forthcoming if you could show a good, a well focused and well lit picture of what is inside the case.
May I make a photo suggestion? Please take a picture of that movement with window light - not direct streaming sunlight but open sky light. Thanks.
I have seen these dial fonts on very early Omega watches, 1900's and 1910's. @Bill Sohne is the expert on these. He will know what this is. gatorcpa
I think (hope) this is going to be good! I'm worried about the fonts also. It doesn't say Speedmaster anywhere, does it? Great movement, great quality, but Brandt?, Omega? OMEGA WATCH CO bothers my bowels. What say you, Bill?
No speedmaster anywhere. I believe it to be made prior to the 1900s and before omega went mainstream.
Inside joke, bear with me, Jeremy! I'm a little concerned about the font being newer than the piece, Bill is the authority with Yann a co-conspirator. An exemplary piece and my cup'o'tea!
I'll get some better pictures in natural light soon. I also found some serial #s on it under the crystal face and around the movement.
Early pieces were sometimes signed "Brandt". I'm just the "B" team. Let's wait for the real experts. gatorcpa
Get the f outta here! If you are the "B" team, I'll be your waterboy! Brandt, yes. Omega Watch Co.? Seems added later to me to diversify interest. Still, a fantastic piece. Did Bill go to bed early?
27''' 8-D L 17P? From about 1919? Or maybe a key wind 30''' 8-D? Edit: Not a Lèpine, so maybe a CLE or key wind (means that it isn't wound by the crown but by a key in the bottom of the case engaging in the ratchet wheel/barrel screw). I can't see how the time is adjusted either, just push the minute hand around?
So the OP has been requested to: Take good photos in natural daylight of the face, movement and bottom of case (winding key hole?) Measure the diameter of the "movement only" in millimetres. Let us know the serial number. Tell us if there is a number under the balance wheel (on the main plate). We are all waiting..................................
