Losing my faith

Envy the trip to the Air & Space museum. My father and I visited it the day after it opened on my one trip to Washington. That would be June 30 or July 1 1976. Michael Collins, the loneliest man in the entire universe when Armstrong and Aldrin were on the moon, was the original director I think. It’s one of the few things that would drag me back to DC, just to see the newer installations.

Freaking amazing day. Never turned on the TV or read the news.

@pdxleaf Great pictures and thanks for sharing. I need to go there one day.
Out of interest anyone know we’re the outer boots are from the suit? Are they on display anywhere / being preserved?

I'm not a dog guy. I am a cat and reptile guy. 😀 But I appreciate the sentiment.

Long walks at any Beach with a small Croc sounds good too..... You will have plenty of friends in a flash.

I used to bring my tame tokay gecko with me to the pet store, sometimes the tavern...

They are still undergoing a significant interior and exterior renovation project. Once that is done ('22?) the full experience should be available again.

Researching venues, look for a DC GTG thread soon.
What type of space are you looking for? Restaurant? Whiskey bar? Thinking a weekend lunch time event? An evening event during the week? I may be able to help with some recommendations depending on what you are aiming for.

...in humanity.

We have this individual who is either too stupid to breathe or a troll.

I have also been watching this TV show on Paramount+ called "Bar Rescue".

I swear sometimes it is only a few steps away from anarchy and being randomly cruel because you can be, and screw everyone else.

How the fυck do people live with themselves?!

I really try to avoid being upset and angry but tonight it's been really hard.

Sorry.
Hahaha I literally found through that show that I live a block away from one and never knew it!!! The thing is I visited it after the show reworked it and saw the difference!! Woww

I see nobody bit on this one..... yes they did leave the actual outer boots behind. I guess to get more Moon rocks in. Shame we don’t have the actual boot for that first famous print. The Lunar Legacy Project lists all the items left behind by Apollo 11. The statements from all the world leaders is worth a read.... but that really might make you loose faith in humanity;0)

The best thing to do in DC is leave.

Haven't been to the one in DC, just Shirlington. Nothing special at that location as far as there being a side room, etc. that I can remember. If you are thinking the location on 14th Street, I'd suggest going a couple blocks south to Gypsy Kitchen. Excellent food and drinks, and they open at noon on Saturdays and Sundays.

Sounds like a few of us are in the DC area, any interest in a 'redbar' type gtg? My watchmaker brought up the idea a few months ago but we haven't yet followed through.

I am in as well. I live in Lehigh valley, PA. I was just talking with @gbesq about getting some local guys from OF together!

I'm definitely all in on a get together like this, but with the proviso that everybody attending is fully vaccinated against Covid. This is not a political statement in any way, shape or form, but rather in my own self-interest. I am a severe asthmatic and receive injections of monoclonal antibodies every month to help me breathe along with a number of other medications. Would love to meet some of my fellow OF members for drinks, lunch or dinner, and watch chat, but if everyone isn't fully vaccinated, I ain't showin' up. 😀

I was messaging with @gbesq about this a few weeks ago. If there is interest in getting together in Arlington, my apartment building has a large club room that I can offer for a meetup. My wife and I used it for our baby shower and it went very well.

We could order in some food and have a lightly stocked bar type set up.

Edit: to say I agree that up to date COVID vaccination status needs be a requirement for attendance.

In the spirit of getting this thread back on track after contributing to some serious drift, I had a similar experience of losing my faith in humanity the other night at 1 am after feeding my 3 month old son.

I decided a late night session in the WaPo app was just what I needed, and I came across an article about the surge in carjackings in the DC area over the last 2 years. Carjackings in DC have more than tripled since 2019 with more than 1 per day occurring this year.

I went into a spiral worrying how I would react if someone tried to carjack us when my son was in the car and had this nightmare scenario running through my head of not being able to get him out of the car safely and gun wielding thieves driving off with him in the car.

So I can sympathize with you @SkunkPrince . Some days (nights) it’s easy to get stuck in your head and feel upset and angry.
